In an interview with the Des Moines Register that was originally off-the-record, the President revealed his plan for deficit reduction in a second term. He said, “So when you combine the Bush tax cuts expiring, the sequester in place […] we’re going to be in a position where I believe in the first six months we are going to solve that big piece of business.” Sequester involves dramatic cuts to the military that even President Obama’s Defense Secretary said they are too deep.
So here we learn that the President’s plan for deficit reduction is the sequester that he said “will not happen” in the foreign policy debate. Apparently it was the Presidents plan all along that the sequester will happen since it is an integral part of his deficit reduction plan for his second term. Interestingly, this information only was revealed in a conversation that was originally suppose to be off-the-record.
In the wake of the Libya scandal, this is yet another instance of what is going on behind the scenes in the Obama White House being dramatically different from what is being told to the American Public. Transparency anyone?
