Today, 8 June 2014, I had the unfortunate chance to watch Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer. Typically, I try to avoid leftist media mongrels debate without the slightest understanding from other view points. Especially, viewpoints that are rooted in more sound understanding such as experience or the “I was there” factor.
For the handful of individuals that used to know me during my service they knew that it was imperative that I only made sound judgments and conclusions if I had the most information available. Additionally, it was essential to my job to have many different viewpoints and NOTHING can replace the viewpoints of individuals with first hand experience. No opinion can outweigh first hand facts and the knowledge of others close to the situation. Nothing, no matter how socialized or ideoligically sensitive you try to be, is fair or equal.
During the broadcast one commentator did say something truly remarkable. It was an earth shattering statement. One that should pin down the reasons that the administration is truly lost with veterans and the military. No one in the administration has served in the military. Now that is not a completely true statement. In the administration you do have John Kerry who received a Purple Heart and a Silver star, only to return to the U.S. and be involved in the anti-war movement. Then there is also Leon Panetta, who served two years in military intelligence. Then there is Joe Biden. Sorry for that mistake as he successfully dodged the draft five times. Chuck Hagel’s military service seems to contain more sacrifice and honor than all of the last three men mentioned. Not that I am discrediting any military service. There is a point.
That point is that the lack of experience in that White House is the sole reason that Bergdahl is free, five Taliban leaders who are linked to the deaths of coalition troops deaths are free, and U.S. Service members died in vain capturing those leaders or searching for Bergahl. You couldn’t have a better recipe for growing a vast fruitful field of distrust from veterans and current service members if you had Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray high on cocaine and sprinkles.
So back to Face The Nation. The real debating should never be about if was it the right thing to do. It should be about uncovering the facts from the actual men that were close to Bergdahl before he left. Focusing on the facts and holding the administration accountable is the job of the people and the media.
I still hold out that they will want their rankings to return and that they will live up to their title of bringing the administration to “Face The Nation.”
At least to those that died in vain.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the Gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.
