An article in the NY Post caught my eye.
"Two more census workers blow the wistle"
This is an interesting article as is shows the extent to which the government is going to prove that their job creation tactics work.
A section of the article suggest that the government is "double dipping" in counting its workers.
Last week, one of the millions of workers hired by Census 2010 to parade around the country counting Americans blew the whistle on some statistical tricks.
The worker, Naomi Cohn, told The Post that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census. Each time she was hired back, it seems, Census was able to report the creation of a new job to the Labor Department.
I have a friend who has recently lost his job. So, as any one who has lost their job would do, he signed up for unemployment. He got a notice from the government that there was a job available for him as a census worker. That's good. About $17 dollars per hour.
So he forks up the money needed to become a qualified census worker and he is in.
In for ONE HOUR of census work.
Which, by the way, enough to disqualify him for unemployment for that day.
$17 dollars in exchange for a days pay on unemployement. Theres a scandle there somewhere. (rather easy to work out numerically).
And this is not an exception. This is the only way they will hire him for the census. One hour at a time.
If he doesn't take it, he loses his ability to receive any unemployement, as it would mean he is breaking the agreemnet with the government and receiving no unemployment at all.
What a great thing "utopia" is.
