As much as common sense tells us that the symbolic act of burning The Qur'an may not be the best choice for public actions to celebrate the 9/11 tower destruction brought to us by Islamic Radicals which hate all that is America, it would be a shame if it were to be halted now.
If, after all of the press, Pastor Terry Jones gives way to the pressure by the U.S. Governement or the U.S. Military, to halt his book burning, then it puts him, his Church, and America in the same "Paper Tiger" group as N. Korea's Kim Jung Il , Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.
All this grand talk and no action. Posturing and no result. The world laughs at the impotency of the words and arm waving.
If, at this point, the Qur'an burining were not to happen, the world would once again see America bowing to the pressures of 3'rd world nations. Giving way to the power of rhetoric. And giving strength to a group that is hell bent on destroying all that is America and not Muslim.
I don't believe that this was the wisest choice for recognition of 9/11. But I do believe that it will do no more harm performing the burning than it would if he did not. The group of radicals which we are so frightened of will use either choice to grow their cause. If we burn the book, then it is a slap in the face to their "religion". If we don't burn the book, is shows the future warriors that America is soft, and will bleed if you strike.
In the end, these radicals, which hate all that is not them, do not need a reason to kill. They wake up every day with that reason. Their interpretation of their "Religion" is all they need.
But it would be a bad thing for an American to be compelled to stop doing what is his right to do, based on words or actions from his Government or his Government's Military.
THAT will do us much more harm.
