Today’s embarrassing Blagojevich-related revelations.

First, it’s being reported that Rod Blagojevich and Rahm Emanuel had multiple conversations on Obama’s replacement:

Second, the timing on this fundraiser was truly awful for the person it was apparently supposed to help:

Blagojevich fundraiser held by Jackson allies Saturday

As Gov. Rod Blagojevich was trying to pick Illinois’ next U.S. senator, businessmen with ties to both the governor and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. discussed raising at least $1 million for Blagojevich’s campaign as a way to encourage him to pick Jackson for the job, the Tribune has learned.

And third: you know that you’re not having a good day when your political opposition can say “There is no way that an appointment process can be free from the stench of this corrupt Administration” and it doesn’t sound absurd.

I couldn’t pick which one was the most fun, so thoughts on all three after the fold.

The first one is of course the one most likely to embarrass Obama himself; like Ed Morrissey, I’m raising an eyebrow at Emanuel’s odd behavior. I was perfectly willing to believe that the Congressman from Illinois’ Fifth District (Blagojevich’s old one, by the way) was actively working with the Feds to take down the Governor, but that narrative is not really compatible with Emanuel’s current actions, and the issue’s getting murkier and murkier. Now that the President-elect’s launched an ‘internal probe’ – amazing how they default to Standard Political Blather at the drop of a hat, huh? – we’ll no doubt get to the bottom of this no later than, say, 2010.

The second one is fun too, though. Ever hear of Harish Bhatt? No, neither did I before now – but he’s apparently a supporter of both Blagojevich and Jackson, not to mention currently under investigation for pay-for-regulatory-play. Not a guy you want showing up at your fundraiser… at least, not when you’re getting actual media scrutiny.

For extra Jackson fun, check this out: as soon as I get the video, it’s getting its own post.

And then we have Senate Minority Leader-elect Christine Radogno’s statement. Come, I will conceal nothing from you: her statement is part of a deliberate effort by the Republican Party – one that I am enthusiatically joining in on – to turn a political scandal into an opportunity to maybe flip a seat in the Senate, and certainly embarrass the Democratic Party. And do you know something? It’s not only legitimate; it’s righteous. Because everybody here knows that Blagojevich is a dirty governor from a dirty political machine, and that he was going to come crashing down sometime. Just bad luck for the Democrats that it came crashing down now – and worse luck that it’s just too shiny for the media to ignore.

All in all, it’s going to be a fun day, let me tell you.
