Recently, a friend of mine and their family had a shocking and frightening situation occur. Our friend's child turned blue and stopped breathing while they were on the highway nearly an hour from home in the rain. The child is now fine, but the story was incredible. What happened that night was nothing short of a miracle. Here's the story as told by the child's grandfather:
Last night we received the most terrifying phone call at home for Grandparents to ever get from Jess and Brian that our grandson Nathan wasn’t breathing, was not responding and was turning blue, they were heading home from our house in Edgemere to eastern shore on route 50 in a huge rain storm, Nathan and Parker were in the back seat in their car seats when Jess checked on them, as a parent I can only imagine what went on in the truck next when she seen Nathan, The way I understand it, Brian stopped the truck, took Nathan out and began cpr, within seconds after that doing that, God sent a doctor, and a paramedic, and many others, that called 911, that took care of traffic, held blankets over Nathan to keep the rain off of him and the doctors, people that took care of Parker, that held, hugged, and comforted our daughter Jessica and our son-in-law Brian until the ambulance arrived, all people that I will ever meet or will ever be able to thank in person, I want to Jesus Christ for giving my family this miracle, and in proving to us that He and only He is Always In Control, I want to Thank Everyone that took the time out of their lives on route 50 last night, to stop and help my family in a storm, I want to thank everyone, family, friends, and people I don’t even know for all of your concerns and prayers, I Thank You, and God Bless You All, after we received the phone call about Nathan we were looking at about an hour and a half ride to the hospital in a storm, not knowing much about what was happening, the ride was a nightmare, about 10 miles from the hospital, we received a phone call from Brian that he could here Nathan crying in the back at the hospital, that was the greatest news we as Grandparents and as parents we have ever heard, other that becoming grandparents, in my mind as a Grandfather I felt the horror of losing my oldest grandson on the the day that my oldest daughter Amy was born, as a father I could only imagine, the horror my son-in-law Brian as a father was going through, Brian, I am so proud of you, you are a great father, a great husband, and a good man, I am honored to have you married to my daughter, father of my grandchildren, and as a son-in-law, take this experience that God has given you and use it to become a better husband, father, and man, the love that you have shown for your children is only a fraction of the love Our Father God has for us, Brian I love you, and Thank You, God Bless You All.
Imagine, if they had left just ten minutes earlier or ten minutes later, they would not have been on that stretch of road at that specific time when a Doctor happened to be on the road, who was able to pull over and help them out. And the many other people who pulled over by the side of the road - they would have been elsewhere in various parts of their trip. The Lord had this all under control, even if the people involved could not see it. In Isaiah 55:8-9, it reads:
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways. This is the Lord’s declaration. For as heaven is higher than earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
We may not understand His plan, but God is in control and it is reassuring that He is in control. This situation reminds us all that the Lord is in control and has blessed everyone who has heard it.
Now, today, I learned something new about this story which I wanted to add and share. I found out the identity of the doctor. That doctor was none other than Congressman Andy Harris (R-MD). Harris is a practicing anesthesiologist and a Desert Storm veteran. After a friend of mine commented on Harris' Facebook page about the matter, Harris personally responded. This is a blessing and we're all thankful for Andy Harris for being that Good Samaritan on the side of the road. He saw people in need literally on the side of the road, in the pouring rain, and stopped to help. For that he deserves gratitude.
EDIT: 07:52 PM - The Baltimore Sun has interviewed the Jones / Smiths. Charles Jones, who's mentioned in the article, wrote the piece I posted at the beginning of this article. But note, Harris didn't do this for fame. He didn't do this to get votes in an election. He did pulled over to see how he could help a scared set of parents looking to the Lord for help to save their child.
EDIT 07:51 AM 9/6/12 - ABC News has more and interviewed Harris and others on this story.
