In the fallout of the Progress Kentucky being outed for recording of Sen. Mitch McConnell's campaign strategy meeting last February, ethics violations were lobbied by both sides. Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington (CREW), a Soros-funded group, accused McConnell of using his staff for campaign activities, specifically opposition research, on government time. Yet, there seems to have been a copyediting mistake – or intentional doctoring– of the original transcript of the meeting. Regardless, reporting on Progress Kentucky's activities has shown that this group really wasn't doing much. In fact, it's fundraising operations were dismal – and were seen as a joke in the eyes of many within Democratic circles. Recently, the organization's treasurer resigned, and a legal fund has been created for probable attorney expenses. However, as BuzzFeed reported today, new developments have shown that Progress Kentucky's Executive Director, Shawn Reilly, who's being investigated by the FBI, visited the White House.
So, these aren't just a few guys making dumb decisions. They're not on the "fringe," and they have influence. It also seems that Democrat Jacob Conway outed experience political operatives, and that Brad Woodhouse, the DNC Communications Director, probably knew them. As Dan Riehl noted on April 12, in saying that he was unfamiliar with this organization, Woodhouse is either out of the loop, or telling an abject lie.
Here’s Woodhouse on 4/11/13 via America Live With Megyn Kelly of Fox News:
MEGYN KELLY: “Do you know this group, Progress Kentucky, Brad?”
BRAD WOODHOUSE: “I don’t.”
KELLY: “You don’t know anything about them?”
WOODHOUSE: “I know the brand of progress organizations, but I don’t know anything about Progress Kentucky.”
KELLY: Do you know Shawn Reilly or Curtis Morrison at all?”
WOODHOUSE: “Uh, no. I’ve never heard of them.”
So, we know the Democrat’s number one Senate target is Mitch McConnell – who is up for re-election. We also already know he’s the target of a coordinated attack. Furthermore, both Shawn Reilly AND Progress Kentucky made national headlines just one month ago – due to a previous misguided attack on McConnell – yet, the guy at the helm of communications of the entire Democrat Party never heard of him???
It seems like a major strike by institutional left against Republicans has backfired. Now, questions concerning Washington Democrats' involvement in this fiasco must be answered. BuzzFeed noted that while Reilly was signed in by Victoria McCullough, who– "according to the White House website...is responsible for the promotion of events across federal agencies and various constituencies using Twitter, blogs and other forms of social media. McCullough is also the "liaison to the arts and culture community." Yet:
On December 13, eight days after Reilly's meeting with the White House, Progress Kentucky tweeted: "The single most important thing we want to achieve: Electing a new US Senator to represent Kentucky," which started a daily barrage of often more than a dozen tweets and retweets directly aimed at McConnell.
Let's see how far this rabbit hole goes.
