Dems’ Electoral War on Conservatives

A recent news story should remind us about the ongoing ‘war’ that is being waged politically against conservatives and Republicans by Democrats and the media.

Former Republican US senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was killed in a plane crash on August 9 at age 86. His death revived stories about Stevens’ honorable career. He was considered the “father” of Alaska statehood, and had served in the Senate since 1968. However, he lost his bid for re-election in November 2008 after he was indicted and found guilty of campaign finance violations shortly before the election.

The conviction then was vacated after the election which Stevens lost narrowly and certainly would have won if he had not been put up on the false charges in the first place. And had Stevens won, we would not have the health-care bill we have now. He would have been the crucial vote that would have blocked it.

Awful. But of course Democrats continue to serve without regard for their bad behavior. Here is just a sampling of significant liberal malfeasance:

*Democrat US senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts served 40 years in the US Senate after certainly and unequivocally causing the drowning death of Mary Jo Kophechne on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts in August 1969, and then not only leaving the scene of the accident, but actively seeking to cover up the crime.

*Big-time Democrat-party figure and Clinton administration official Franklin Raines ‘cooked the books’ at Fannie Mae and walked away with $90 million in salary and bonuses while Fannie Mae then collapsed. Raines never has faced justice in either his payout or Fannie’s collapse.

*Democrat congressman Gerry Studds of Massachusetts continued to serve in the House of Representatives after it was revealed that he had engaged in a homosexual relationship with a congressional page.

*Joseph P. Kennedy and the Chicago mafia blatantly stole the 1960 presidential election for John F. Kennedy over Richard Nixon. But the media narrative was to just overlook that fraud, that Kennedy deserved the presidency, that he was so young and dashing, it’s a new dawn etc.

*And finally, who could forget the phony National Guard story put out by CBS that sought to defeat George W. Bush for re-election in 2004? Fortunately an alert blogger at the littlegreenfootballs.com website picked up on some discrepancies in the paperwork evidence and revealed the fraud.

Here are excerpts from wikipedia.org about the Ted Stevens story:

On July 29, 2008, Stevens was indicted by a federal grand jury on seven counts of failing to properly report gifts, a felony, and found guilty at trial three months later (October 27, 2008

…US District Court Judge in Washington DC Emmet G. Sullivan, on October 2, 2008, denied the mistrial petition of Stevens’ chief counsel, Brendan Sullivan, due to allegations of withholding evidence by prosecutors.

On October 27, 2008, Stevens was found guilty of all seven counts of making false statements.

Nonetheless, during a debate with his opponent Mark Begich days after his conviction, Stevens continued to claim innocence. “I have not been convicted. I have a case pending against me, and probably the worst case of prosecutorial misconduct by the prosecutors that is known.” Stevens also cited plans to appeal. Begich went on to defeat Stevens by 3,724 votes.

… In February 2009, FBI agent Chad Joy filed a whistleblower affidavit, alleging that prosecutors and FBI agents conspired to withhold and conceal evidence that could have resulted in a verdict of “not guilty.”

… On behalf of Attorney General Holder, Paul O’Brien submitted a “Motion of The United States To Set Aside The Verdict And Dismiss The Indictment With Prejudice” in connection with case No. 08-231 early on April 1, 2009. Judge Emmet G. Sullivan soon signed the order; as it occurred prior to sentencing, it had the effect of vacating Stevens’ conviction. (end of Stevens excerpt)

There even was a short-lived movement to void the Begich election, but it failed. After all, a Democrat could have lost the seat so there was zero talk of the election challenge in the media.

So apparently a Republicans cannot even get a fair trial any more, while Democrats skate away from their crimes at high speed.

Now consider the case of former Republican Texas congressman and House majority leader Tom DeLay, who was essentially forced out of the House of Representatives where he had served from 1984 until 2006 when his seat fell to a Democrat.

Here are some excerpts from wikipedia.org about DeLay’s case:

In 2005, a Texas court charged DeLay with criminal violations of state campaign finance laws and money laundering. DeLay pled not guilty, claiming political motivation for the charges.

‘As of January 2010, the prosecutor has yet to bring the case before a jury. Two former senior aides to DeLay have been convicted in the Jack Abramoff scandal, and though the infamous lobbyist was closely associated with DeLay, the former congressman himself has not been legally implicated. (end of DeLay excerpt)

Fox News then reported on August 16, 2010:

The Justice Department has ended its six-year criminal probe of the ties between former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and disgraced ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff without filing any criminal charges against the former congressman.

Six years! Whatever happened to our right as Americans to a speedy trial?

Answer: Republicans need not apply. But cop killers and illegal aliens sure can.

Thus Republicans and conservatives always are tarred as guilty by appearance, i.e., they are savaged by the media and then run from office or defeated at the polls simply for this media-generated perception, as DeLay and Stevens both were. And if you talk to a liberal, they will say something like, “Of course we know DeLay is really guilty. Blah, blah, blah…” Which is how justice is served in dictatorships – by word of mouth.

Our nation and our American criminal justice system were specifically designed to prevent such ‘railroading’ by politically powerful people and forces.

The facts have cleared both DeLay and Stevens. But in the court of public opinion, manipulated by the dishonest media and by scheming Democrats, they both were convicted and ruined politically. And this is another travesty that needs to be remedied with judicial reform in Washington, first by voting Democrats out, then by installing people of integrity who will fix our corrupt system.
