A recent drive through a particularly hard-hit, marginalized (read: ignored) portion of Carolyn McCarthy’s (NY-4) district makes the case — at a glance — for her removal. Having packed up the equipment following a modest, introductory, pre-Primary shoot for her (now) opponent, we happened upon a scene that captures, symbolically, just how hard Dems in Congress actually work for their constitiuents.
For 14 years now, the good folks of New York’s 4th Congressional District (Long Island) have elected and re-elected the perpetually invisible Carolyn McCarthy.
The highly charged and emotional circumstances that propelled her to national fame (1993 Long Island Rail Road massacre) seem to have created more of an electoral habit than mandate. That issue is now back-burner as jobs, the economy and the lockstep voting records of Congressional Dems has taken the spotlight.

Didn’t realize what we had until recently. A 30-second piece of microcosm for the whole of 2010 Congressional races.
Today, the safe D seat is in play (10/4 McLaughlin poll). For obvious reasons.
