I believe most readers of Redstate are familiar with the writer Andrew Sullivan and the publication, "The Daily Beast". Mr. Sullivan has been recently noted in the news for his column calling out President Obama after the first Presidential debate in which Governor Romney wiped the floor with the President. Now Mr. Sullivan is back on the liberal reservation with an incendiary column in the Beast entitled, "The GOP's Geography and the Confederacy".
In this column, Sullivan compares a map of the old Confederate States of America with his projection of the states which will vote for Romney in 2012 and states that the two maps will very closely mirror each other. The conclusion he then draws is laced with all the poison and vitriol that the race-baiting left can muster.
Sullivan states, "I think America is currently in a Cold Civil War. The parties, of course, have switched sides since the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The party of the Union and Lincoln is now the Democratic party. The party of the Confederacy is now the GOP. And racial polarization is at record levels, with whites entirely responsible for reversing Obama's 2008 inroads into the old Confederacy in three Southern states. You only have to look at the electoral map in 1992 and 1996, when Clinton won, to see how the consolidation of a Confederacy-based GOP and a Union-based Democratic party has intensified - and now even more under a black president from, ahem, Illinois. I find it troubling - and interesting."
This egregious attack on the states who choose not to support a President who has done more to damage the heart of our economy, the reputation of our military, and the soul of American Exceptionalism, cannot go unanswered. It is absolutely false that the political parties have reversed positions; since FDR, the Democrat Party has fomented and executed an insidious long term plan to re-enslave minorities and the poor in our country, not in chains as Joe Biden suggests Republicans desire, but with the enslavement of dependency carried on the siren song of "compassion". This has been accomplished not by giving a hand up to those truly in need, but instead by making them ever more dependent on the government for their subsistence, housing, and medical care. Race-based quotas for college enrollment and employment, court decisions requiring certain "Red" states to submit the re-districting maps to the courts for approval, and forced school busing were only the opening salvo fired by liberals. We now see the chains of enslavement drawing tighter and tighter with the advent of the "Obamaphone", Obamacare, the extension of unemployment benefits over and over again, until unemployment, aided by the Obama war on business, is in danger of becoming an "occupation" in itself. When Bill Clinton was forced by Congress to alter the welfare program and payments and to limit the time they were available, conservatives knew that it was only a matter of time before it was again advantageous for Democrats to reverse that policy just as President Obama has done. All these "gifts" to the beneficiaries thereof come with the price of their vote. Once the dependency is established, the Democrat Party makes it known that the perfidious Republicans will take all the benefits away unless Democrats remain in control. The poor, underpriveleged, and minorities have become the lemoras to the Democrat shark; feeding off the bits it spews as it savages its prey, the United States of America.
The Republican Party, and especially conservatives within and without the Party, have sought to release these economic dependency chains, just as they fought to release the literal chains during the Civil War. We know that true freedom can only exist when government is limited in scope and small in size. We know that true freedom can only be obtained when every man is free to make his living unencumbered by foolish government restrictions and regulations which are currently strangling our economy. It can only be obtained when all citizens are taught what their responsibility is to themselves and that the government cannot be the crutch that takes the place of individual human enterprise. Freedom can only be obtained when God is once again allowed to be a part of our lives and not boxed and caged solely into the church buildings of our nation but practiced openly and unashamedly on the street; when the First Amendment guarantee of "Congress shall make no law...prohibiting the free exercise thereof." once again means what the words say. We conservatives and the Republican Party have, for too long, remained silent or apathetic at the liberal assault on these issues. Now, we are coming out of our apathy and channeling that new-found fire into the political process with renewed vigor.
In an awakening that began with the 2010 elections and has built and grown up to this point, we are breaking out of our apathy. We are uniting, not to enslave the citizens of this country, but to free them. They must be freed and the beginning of this new era of freedom begins with the defeat of the current Enslaver-in-Chief, Barack Obama.
