From The “With Friends Like These” Files

Congressional Democrats are complaining that they are receiving very little in the way of politeness and consideration from the Obama campaign. As one Senate Democratic aide is quoted as saying, “They think they know what’s right and everyone else is wrong on everything . . . They are kind of insufferable at this point.” Read the story, and you will find that the Obama campaign is making a whole host of mistakes when it comes to ensuring and/or maintaining good relations with Congressional Democrats either on the messaging front or on the securing-good-public-relations front. The following quote is especially revealing:

One Democratic aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity, compared the Obama campaign unfavorably to President Bush’s administration.

“At least Bush waited until he was in the White House before they started ignoring everybody,” the aide said.

And Bush is a Republican to boot!

Of course, the consequence of all of this is that Congressional Democrats will find themselves less invested in Obama’s campaign. Should the race continue to be close, the failure of Obama’s campaign to maintain good relations with Congressional Democrats will come back to haunt him. Those Democrats will look out for themselves when election time rolls around and leave the Obama campaign to fend for itself. In a close election, oft-forgotten factors could make all of the difference and the gulf between the Obama campaign and Congressional Democrats could ultimately serve to deprive Obama of some valuable weapons that could be used to win a close election.
