Incumbent Congressman Brad Ellsworth likes to portray himself as a conservative Blue Dog Democrat who bucks the party on the most important issues. Unfortunately for him, the facts of his voting record tell an entirely different tale and on jobs, the economy, health care and even immigration, he’s stood right alongside President Obama.
In Dan Coats’ second television ad of the general election season titled ‘The Difference’ – he points out that nearly 90 percent of Congressman Ellsworth’s votes have been in lockstep with the Obama-Reid-Pelosi Agenda. From the TARP Wall Street bailout to the stimulus to the overwhelmingly unpopular health spending bill – when the Democratic leadership trio needed him, Congressman Ellsworth dutifully supported their wishes.
But that rubberstamping approval extends further than just the economy and health care all the way to immigration.
While Congressman Ellsworth has yet to take a ‘yes or no’ stand on Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law, it’s pretty clear from his rhetoric where he stands…or rather, who he stands with. Here’s a shot/chaser to underscore our point.
"Although I understand the frustration of the people of Arizona when it comes to the inflow of illegal immigrants, I don't think this is the right way to do it…[Arizona’s law] also creates the prospects of 50 different laws in 50 different states when it comes to immigration." – President Barack Obama (CNN, 6/3/10)
“[I] understand totally why the states feel the need to do their own. But what we don’t need is 50 different immigration laws in this country.” – Congressman Brad Ellsworth (Evansville Courier & Press, 9/9/10)
Birds of a feather…they sure do flock together.
