The Twitterverse, blogosphere, and pundits have been in overdrive since last Thursday night's VP debate. For me, the tweet of David Burge @iowahawkblog summed it up, both before the debate and after:
Drinking game: every time you realize Joe Biden is one heartbeat away from the presidency, drink. — David Burge (@iowahawkblog) October 11, 2012
Foreign policy, Mr. Biden's raison d'être for the Obama administration was on display as he uttered his response, "we didn't know they needed more security," signalling Hillary was next to go under the bus. Yet, how many viewers and pundits, other than foreign policy experts/nerds sifting through the glib remarks of the Vice President, fully caught on to the clues laid before us of the Administration's overall handling of our country's foreign policy.
We're in the beginning phase of the Libya cover-up debacle, we're sitting on the sidelines of the Syria morass, which is more threatening to the US interests than Libya ever was, ever will be. No mention was made of the pending upheaval in the South China Sea, no mention of the inroads made into Latin and South America by Hezbollah. No mention of China's rising military or currency manipulation, or Russia thwarting us at every turn. Maybe our foreign policy genius forgot? However, the defining moment of the evening in terms of the VP's ignorance occurred when "Chuckles" Biden smirked his way through the Iranian nuclear weapon question and answer.
But number two, the Iranians are — the Israelis and the United States, our military and intelligence communities are absolutely the same exact place in terms of how close — how close the Iranians are to getting a nuclear weapon. They are a good way away. There is no difference between our view and theirs.
When my friend talks about fissile material, they have to take this highly enriched uranium, get it from 20 percent up, then they have to be able to have something to put it in. There is no weapon that the Iranians have at this point. Both the Israelis and we know — we’ll know if they start the process of building a weapon.
Perhaps his intel briefings should inform him that nuclear devices can be put in suitcases.
Consider the recent Iran-backed cyber attack that happened last week where the US major financial institutions were hacked, as well as Saudi Arabia's ARAMCO. Computers at University of Michigan's School of Engineering were hacked into, and then used to disrupt people trying to get into their online accounts at banks such as Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, et al. And what was cause of this attack. According to The Washington Free Beacon and The New York Times, Iran was responding to the US/Israeli Stuxnet attack on their systems. And remember how did Stuxnet first came to light ... yes, The New York Times article written based upon interviews/leaks purportedly coming from the White House.
As we await the upcoming Obama-Romney debate tomorrow night, Uncle Joe's version of "The Shining" set the new standard for lowest common denominator for Vice Presidential demeanor and mental acuity. Let's hope we give him a new venue for his sideshow on November 6.
