The Fair Housing Act was intended to prevent people from discriminating against a person based on their skin color or handicap. It was never intended to force people to live with others who are complete opposites their faith, beliefs, or gender. The law was never meant to force a young lady to have to rent her second bedroom to a young guy filled with sexual want. Nor was it ever intended to force a person of faith to have to rent it to an atheist, muslim, gay, or anyone else that would live and act in a way that would offend that persons faith. The law was designed to end racist rental practices that were prevalent a few decades ago. You either rented your home or extra space with a blind eye towards color, or you did not rent it at all.
But along comes a leftist POS who has an agenda and who wants to write the law to suit his own hate. This time the hate is focused on a christian, next time it will be everyone else. This time it is a christian who finds themselves at the end of the gun, next time it is the republican who does not want a smelly pot smoking hippie who constantly talks about his die hard support of communism in this country.
A civil rights complaint has been filed against a woman in Grand Rapids, Mich., who posted an advertisement at her church last July seeking a Christian roommate.
The ad “expresses an illegal preference for a Christian roommate, thus excluding people of other faiths,” according to the complaint filed by the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan.
“It’s a violation to make, print or publish a discriminatory statement,” Executive Director Nancy Haynes told Fox News. “There are no exemptions to that.”
Haynes said the unnamed 31-year-old woman’s case was turned over to the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Depending on the outcome of the case, she said, the woman could face several hundreds of dollars
in fines and “fair housing training so it doesn’t happen again.”
Harold Core, director of public affairs with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, told the Grand Rapids Press that the Fair Housing Act prevents people from publishing an advertisement stating their preference of religion, race or handicap with respect to the sale or rental of a dwelling.
Yep you read that right. No where did she say she would only accept a white christian or just a white person only. She did not state no Mexicans or no Asians, she only stated that as a Christian she would only accept a person living with her that also believed in Jesus Christ. Who in their right minds would have an issue with this. We all have our beliefs, some of the beliefs are held more tightly than others. We would all want to live with like minded people. Would anyone have issue with an ex drunk trying to remain sober advertising for a room mate who never drinks any alcohol, I doubt it. Yet when a person of faith, a christian in this example, asks to live in their OWN home with another person who lives the same way, all of a sudden it is a crime. The whole issue is a joke and the group that is trying to sue this lady needs to be shut down. They have abused their power and set their own agenda/beliefs as the group policy. They have substituted reason for plain ignorance and stupidity. Welcome to the liberal age…..
But there is hope yet for the lady. the Alliance Defense Fund has come to her defense at no charge to the lady. In their own words…
Joel Oster, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, which is representing the woman free of charge, describes the case as “outrageous.”
“Clearly this woman has a right to pick and choose who she wants to live with,” he said.
“Christians shouldn’t live in fear of being punished by the government for being Christians. It is completely absurd to try to penalize a single Christian woman for privately seeking a Christian roommate at church — an obviously legal and constitutionally protected activity.”
And now for the ignorant reasoning of the groups spokesman on why they have brought the charges against the lady….
Haynes said the person who filed the initial complaint saw the ad on the church bulletin board and contacted the local fair housing
The ad included the words, “Christian roommate wanted,” along with the woman’s contact information. Had the ad not included the word “Christian,” Haynes said, it would not have been illegal.
“If you read it and you were not Christian, would you not feel welcome to rent there?” Haynes asked.
The Alliance Defense Fund has filed to have the case dismissed due to being groundless. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens. But Haynes with the Fair Housing Center of Western Michigan says they plan on pursuing this case to the end. He claims they are pursuing the charges “So that we can make sure this type of bigotry never happens again.” What he should have said had he wanted to be honest was that he is pursuing these charges in hopes of taking yet one more right away from the nasty Christians. Thank God throwing Christians to the lions is no longer allowed or this guy would stay awful busy.
