Desperation: Pelosi trying to hoodwink Stupak

The House Dems Don’t Have the Votes Without Stupak   [Daniel Foster]

If the Democrats had the votes in the House to pass the Senate bill without Bart Stupak’s Dozen, would they be suggesting something as desperate as this?

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Thursday that lawmakers could draft separate pieces of legislation with abortion language to earn the support of anti-abortion rights Democrats on healthcare reform legislation. . . .

“Separate pieces of legislation could be passed that would relate to that,” Hoyer told reporters after a meeting with Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) “That’s a possibility. I talked to Mr. Stupak today, and I’m going to be talking to him next week and he indicated he wanted to have some discussions with people. And I will do that.”

Pelosi must be WAY SHORT if she is considering burning her pro-choice caucus by bringing a separate pro-life measure to the floor.

UPDATE: via the Feed, video of Ed Schultz suggesting that the “Stupak crowd may be growing.”

I wonder if Stupak is falling for this.  The progressives (particularly pro-choice) are going to have to take it where the sun doesn’t shine again.  Taxing cadillac plans, no public option and now this?  Will they take this lying down?  Going to be interesting to find out.  Even if a seperate bill is introduced as part of a deal, the House and Senate GOP could offer amendments of repealing Obamacare altogether and force them to take votes on this.  Of course this would get pushed into the mid-term elections.  Thus, Stupak’s coalition would be left in the wilderness to have the carcass eaten by their constituents and finally put to death on election night in November.
