The Renewed Conservative

During this life or death battle for our nation’s freedom and soul which currently deals with health care, I have had quite a bit of time to reflect on the state of our nation, where we have been, how we got here, and currently are going. Most of my posts recently have dealt with fighting off this socialist sword that is at the point of piercing this nation’s heart and everything that has been fought and bled for. This is going to be long but please bear with me. I do thank you for your time.

For far too long, the freedom loving people of this great nation have trusted our representatives in Washington. We as Americans believe it is an elected official’s duty to safeguard our freedom, creating laws that protect our citizens and to preserve an American individual’s liberty to pursue whatever dream, purpose, or whatever contribution that individual wants to make to this country and be rewarded for it. It is the elected official’s duty to uphold the foundation laid by our forefathers over 200 years ago and to never put the future generations of this country in jeopardy in the name of self-interest to preserve one’s political office. Sadly, for far too long, we have let elected officials both on the Democratic and Republican side of the aisle get away with this. We have been asleep and apathetic. We, the people as a whole, have not internalized the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the history of this country and the lessons that should have taught us what not to do and what to look out for. We have let politicians confuse us with double talk, pragmatism, criticism and have too foolishly taken politicians at their word. We have let elected officials get away with abandoning stated principles in the name of self-interest with our own tax dollars that fund a project for an elected official’s state in exchange for that official’s vote on a piece of legislation. We have let elected officials get away with turning into slippery eels. By not holding their actions accountable through elections when an elected official does not uphold his promises, we have let virtue go by the wayside and In doing so, we have been blindly forfeiting away our freedoms and prosperity.  We have elected financially illiterate officials who have no idea how to balance a budget or whom just don’t care to. Are elected officials servants of the people or, are they mini tyrants only looking out for the interests of themselves and a few select others? We are leaving an inheritance of servitude/slavery to our children.

It is hard to pinpoint the genesis of when this all began. However, the destructive thoughts and beliefs of socialism even had to be addressed by our founding fathers. For many years, socialists have been engaged in incremental subterfuge with the ultimate goal of transforming this nation into a tried and failed form of government. This has been compounded by the breakdown in our legal system in not dealing harshly with perpetrators who do harm to others. The system has become too soft on crime, our laws have been lightly enforced and parole for one’s punishment comes too easily. There is no longer “Equal Justice Under Law” as is inscribed on the building of our nation’s highest court. However, the most damaging flaw that this nation has inherited is that the people for the most part have become only concerned with themselves, the selfish pursuit of wealth to become monetarily rich, and have ceased to be virtuous over a period of time since the beginning of the 20th century. Samuel Adams warned us long ago of all of this:

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

A general dissolution of the principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy…. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but once they lose their virtue, they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader…. If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security.

Quotes of Samuel Adams can be found here.

Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and other founders of this country have warned of this as well. We as a nation are already rich. I define rich as being free, living in a country where I can do and accomplish any purpose that I set out to do without any government entity telling me I cannot.

The Great Depression and subsequent World War II were harsh lessons that really taught that generation what was important. Looking out for your American brother, standing to protect and fight for the freedoms of our nation, having a grateful heart to God for His grace in establishing a free nation such as the one we have. By doing the right thing, being truthful, honorable, and having a loving, open heart for your fellow American. People were virtuous and were concerned first for others. It is because of this that I consider the World War II generation our greatest nation. The World War II generation trusted their elected officials implicitly because in those days following the war, trust in your fellow American was paramount in the war. People trusted in each other because they had to and in so doing, believed that their fellow Americans wouldn’t even think of harming each other.

John F. Kennedy stated famously in his inauguration address “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” As great as this sounded, it was nothing but a counterfeit that fooled that generation by cleverly exploiting the generation’s belief in duty for country. Ronald Reagan correctly pointed out that as great as Kennedy’s statement sounded, he noticed that when Kennedy took office, nineteen new federal spending programs were proposed over a short period of time. Kennedy really was saying “Ask not what your government can do for you, ask what you can do for your government.” More federal spending always in the end means a higher tax burden and further loss of freedom to the American people. The renewed conservative’s creed should be:

“Ask not what your neighbor can do for you. Ask what you can do for your neighbor.”

By a simple change of one word, this nation would become virtuous and as a result, great again. The economic outlook of this country would brighten by the day. Government would be marginalized and relegated back to protecting this nation’s freedom and ensuring equal justice under the law. Socialism would be ultimately destroyed because people would depend on each other, not the government.

The main goal of the Democratic (Socialist) party of America is to have the people dependent on the government. By people being dependent on the government, elected officials are kings, not servants of the people. I have mentioned before, the Democrats do this by being experts at taking advantage of the downtrodden. They use the tools of bitterness, envy, anger, false hope, and paranoia in enslaving a person’s mind. In doing so, they rob and blind a person of the American dream. They rob a person of the strength and joy that would come to that person who might overcome whatever bad position they might be in during their life.  The lazy person or bad worker who doesn’t want to work hard and/or doesn’t respect authority is also a friend of the Democratic party. Why? Because that person is always dependent on government. Look at these statements that we hear all the time from the Democratic party:

  • “The Republicans are going to take away your Social Security.” (Translation: Democrats don’t want to lose tax dollars and your dependence on government.)

  • “The Republicans are going to take away your Medicare.” (Translation: Democrats don’t want to lose tax dollars and your dependence on government.)

  • “The Republicans are going to take away government programs that help the poor.” (Translation: Democrats don’t want to lose tax dollars and your dependence on government.)

  • “The Republicans are going to cut taxes which will only help the wealthy and not the poor.” (Translation: Democrats don’t want to lose tax dollars and your dependence on government. The wealthy create jobs. The poor don’t pay taxes at the end of the day. They usually have a refund because of tax credits.)

  • “The Republicans are trying to stop you from getting your unemployment benefits.” (Translation: Democrats don’t want to lose tax dollars and your dependence on government.)

Do you see a common theme in those statements? Democrats are masters of manipulating people’s emotions. They do so by always saying that Republicans are going to steal something from you. The fact is that true Republicans are always trying to cut and limit government so greater freedom can be given to the people. The poor and downtrodden usually only want to feel like they are cared for, encouraged, and have hope. It is up to the good people of this nation to lift up these poor souls. The Democratic party exploits this by giving these people the false hope that if they are in power, they’ll set things straight. They will tell that person that they’ll get what is fair for that person. Of course, they will take it away from a successful person who only worked hard to get to where he is. And in doing so, they will add another person to their voter base. A poor or downtrodden person can only get out of his bad lot in life with positive actions by himself. Just throwing money toward them isn’t going to solve anything. Only that person himself alone can only improve his lot in life.

Given my current belief the Democratic party today is a detestable lot, I believe that God has placed them here for a reason. It is to constantly test and remind the people that if this nation’s people ceases to be virtuous, to look out after and offer a helping hand to each American brother and sister who might need it, to hold our elected officials accountable for their votes, statements, principles, and adherence to the Constitution and our laws, we do have people in power who would gladly transform this country into something it was never meant to be. Our great nation, our freedom, our liberty will cease to exist as we know them today.

We must ever be watchful of our elected officials, ever virtuous and loving to our neighbors, ever pursuing to ensuring that this nation lives as one nation under God for as long as His grace shall give us. By doing so, the economy will improve, government will decrease, our crushing debt will disappear, and our nation’s strength shall shine as that city on the hill Ronald Reagan so loved to talk about.
