In Ocala, Florida Modern America Reaps What It Has Sown.

Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

– Galatians VI King James Version (HT: The Phrase Finder)

The town of Ocala, Florida played host to an absolutely brutal crime. A 15-year-old boy, who apparently had the survival will of Rasputin, was beaten, shot seven times, burned, killed and cremated. Afterwards, the ashes were hidden in several paint cans. How horrible! Who could do such a thing to another human being?

After reading the Drudge Report this morning, I’m thinking a fairly sizeable minority of the American population could have taken part in this act and not felt terribly perturbed. How could I feel this way about my fellow Americans? What a vile, Rethuglican thing to say! No, it’s the stone-cold truth. An active element of our culture is aggressively seeking to devalue the human life and does so with the financial support of our government. The Boston Herald describes the sickness occurring at The Maria Talks Website below.

Maria tells teen readers abortion is a “hot topic” but that the procedure is “more common than you might think” and “safe and effective, though some people may experience temporary discomfort.” The site’s discussion of risk is limited to advising that it is better to get an abortion sooner rather than later.

In another segment, Maria says to Massachusetts teens, “The reality of getting an abortion is much easier than it sounds here.” In contrast, a more cautionary Maria counsels on another page that adoption “can be pretty tough for some people, especially emotionally.”

Of bypassing parental approval, Maria says, “It may be really hard for you to imagine talking to either your parents or a judge about getting an abortion, but there are people who can help you through it.” Under state law, children under 18 seeking an abortion must have permission from a parent or a guardian. Maria notes that state law allows minors to skirt that approval through a confidential judicial hearing, saying, “I know it sounds crazy . . . this really can be done and young women do this all the time here in Massachusetts.”

See, it’s clean, cheap and easy to end a human life. The Director of NARAL just loves how judgment-free and youth-friendly everything is. A principal at a Massachusetts high School feels good that Mariatalks.com has a state-sponsored organization standing behind it. So did Maxim Gorky.

No muss, no fuss, no baby to clean up after. The future’s so bright we all have to wear shades. It makes me wonder how those crazy freaks in Florida could have gone and killed somebody. Really, it’s not that hard to figure out. The feel-good, non-judgmental talk about abortions is the white-washing of murder. The kids in Florida killed a fellow teen-ager and burned him and stuck him in paint cans to bury because they understood the implicit message of Mariatalks.com a whole lot better than the Massachusetts High School Principal.

Yesterday, my Redstate Colleague, Dan McLaughlin, gave us the grim statistics that Maria doesn’t trouble her pretty, little head with. Today, I’m looking at what gets left behind by a culture that sanitizes such an untenable slaughter of innocent human beings. I’m seeing an increasingly callous and hardened culture that knows that it has been instructed to excuse evil.

Your judgment, your ability to discriminate, your capability to think past the feel-good propaganda all are increasingly necessary in modern America. When they tell you not to judge, when they tell you anything the state stands behind is good, when they tell you the wrong thing is easy, safe and convenient, they don’t do this out of love. I’m thinking the only differences between the NARAL women, the html-coders at MariaTalks.com and the unthinking brutes in Ocala, Florida are merely ones of tact, income and discretion. It is as it always has been. What you sow, so shall you reap.
