Ivan Garcia-Hidalgo offers a wealth of international and domestic experience in his nearly 20-year career. Ivan’s diverse business development, sales and communication expertise and skills have driven increased revenue and profitability for his employers and clients, including US based multi-nationals, like Sprint, ADC, and AT&T. Ivan’s unique business and management style creates positive results. During his last assignment with AT&T, Ivan served as Director of Strategic Partners & Alliances and was responsible to managing a multi-billion dollar arm of AT&T’s operations in Canada, the Caribbean & Latin American. This region represented several key AT&T interests including their 49% stake and board seat in Alestra which were a multi-billion dollar assets. Ivan has led teams across organizations with tangible success resulting in multi-million dollar deals, including his team’s support of a $1.6B deal with Shell and a $5B deal with IBM while at AT&T. Ivan’s focus is in the Western Hemisphere, where he has meaningful connections and expertise with the complex political, legal and regulatory landscapes in Washington DC, Florida and Latin America. Having lived in these markets for several years and been traveling throughout them for about two decades, his network is second to none. Ivan understands how to successfully navigate regulatory and political challenges, as well as nuanced local customs requirements. He has been able to effectively maneuver his clients, employers and allies through these markets not only to assure a win, but to win big! Ivan has spent his entire career initiating, supporting or participating in many of the pressing trade and telecommunications policy issues facing our country and region during the past 20 years including the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA, 1992), Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR, 2005), Peruvian Trade Promotion Agreement (PTPA, 2006), Chile FTA (2005), Columbian Trade Promotion Agreement (CTPA, 2006), Trade Promotion Authority (TPA, 2002), Andean Trade Preference Act (ATPA, 1991), Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (ATPDEA, 2002), The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act (S. 1033, McCain-Kennedy), The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act (H.R. 1836), Florida FTAA 2004-2006, Telecommunications Act of 1996, and the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act of 2006. Ivan’s political experience runs deep. He proudly has led trade missions to Latin America with business and political leaders including then Gov. Jeb Bush, and was privileged to be invited to the White House to celebrate Pope Benedict XVI’s birthday on April 16th 2008. During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Ivan was a member of Mitt Romney’s Hispanic Steering Committee. On October 2011 Ivan was a recipient of a special congressional recognition for his contributions as a Hispanic American. He later joined Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign as his Hispanic Communications Deputy while he ran in the GOP primaries. In the general elections he rejoined Mitt as part of his National Finance Committee where they were tasked with raising money for the campaign. Ivan also contributes to The Americano, an online Forum focused on reaching Hispanic voters, as well as the Inter American Security Watch, an online forum focused on security matters affecting the Americas. Ivan lives in Washington DC with his wife Martha and two children, David and Jessica.
