The British press is playing their usual game of moral equivalency in the wake of pro-Osama bin Laden rallies staged by Muslims across the world. The most notable of the protests were held in London, where the English Defence League organized a counter protest. Can you guess which group was painted as extremist?
From The Express:
HUNDREDS of Osama bin Laden supporters clashed with English Defence League extremists today as a “funeral service” for the assassinated terror leader sparked fury outside London’s US Embassy.
Police stepped in to separate the chanting groups amid threats of violence from both sides.
US leaders were branded “murderers” by radicals, who warned vengeance attacks were “guaranteed” and shouted: "USA, you will pay."
The pro-bin Laden event was organised by controversial preacher Anjem Choudary.
So hundreds of Islamists holding a funeral for a mass murdering jihadi warlord are "supporters" being led by a "controversial" preacher who just happens to be an active recruiter for radical Islam. The counter protesters--celebrating the death of a truly evil enemy of all Western Civilization--are the extremists. But who's really extreme here?
Choudary told reporters after the service that America had created a new generation of Islamic terrorists.
He said: "There will be one million Osamas. Muslims will remember Osama as a great man who stood up against Satan. Many will want to emulate his acts.
"In Britain we have other options - like political action, but in other countries if your land is attacked or your family are put at risk you must defend yourself.
"We believe in the covenant of security that we must attack those we live with, but many do not."
The group began their march from the Regents Park Mosque where they tried to recruit some of the thousands who prayed there.
Choudary said: "Who comes is who comes. I am happy if there was three of us. We would still have this demonstration."
Abu Muaz, 28, from east London, added: "It is only a matter of time before another atrocity - the West is the enemy.”
Meanwhile, EDL members chanted “USA, USA” as Muslims knelt to pray for bin Laden at the opposite end of the highly-secured embassy, in central London.
An ambulance was called to the scene amid reports that one of the extremists had been attacked.
Wow, that EDL sure is "extreme" compared to the jihadists who sent one of them to the hospital. You'll note that The Express goes out of its way to make the pro-Osama protest seem like a small group of malcontents. Yet even the Daily Mail has to admit that London is literally a hot bed of Islamism and that the protests in "Londonistan" were violent and out of control. That article doesn't leave out the fact that Choudry praised both the 7/7 bombings and the 9/11 attacks.
Yet the EDL members are extremists and Choudry is simply "controversial."
To be sure there are problems with the EDL. One of the founders of the group, a blogger called Lionheart, is in the middle of bitter battle with the "new" EDL over which direction the group will go, and has publicly accused the current leadership of having ties to the Marxist terrorist Irish Republican Army. But the actions of the EDL on Friday in support of the American people and their victory over one of our most savage enemies was far from extremism.
For the Left, however, defense of Western Civilization in the face of of a movement dedicated to our complete subjugation and obliteration is extreme. The Left truly believes that the West is evil, that 5,000 years of greatness should be wiped from the record. The end of classical liberal cultures is not something the Left fears, but embraces. That's why arguing with leftists about why they should fear the Islamist goal of worldwide sharia will never work. The self-loathing, self-destructive modern "liberal" wants to be destroyed and doesn't care who does the deed.
A leader of the Muslim American Society used the occasion of Osama bin Laden's death to opine that there was "nothing wrong" with his vision of a global caliphate in which non-Muslims would be forced to live under Muslim rule. Imagine that. Here in America the so-called moderate Muslims are extolling Osama bin Laden's vision (if not his tactics) and our leftists are not only silent but remain supportive of the vision of a global caliphate. Noam Chomsky wrote today that George W. Bush is worse than Osama bin Laden, that the American president who defended our country for a decade from an Islamic imperialist movement was worse than a man who ordered the attacks on the World Trade Center and dozens of other terror bombings.
So who are the extremists? The English Defence League who risked life and limb to support America and Western Civilization? Or is it the Left, spitefully working for the destruction of Western countries in an unholy alliance with Islamic imperialists?
