Obama finally let the cat out of the bag- he supports the mosque at Ground Zero. *Pause for gasps* Not at all a surprise for anyone that knows the president and the crew he hangs around. The shocker comes during a White House dinner in celebration of Ramadan. Remember when Obama wanted a non-religious Christmas ?
"as a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country."
The same right, eh? Like this ? I guess covering up Jesus was something completely different. Maybe I'm making something out of nothing.
“This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government , is essential to who we are." (Emphasis mine .)
Well, I sure hope they wouldn't be treated differently by their government. Except... Didn't Paterson offer an alternate location for the mosque in an attempt to quell all the anger and frustration? When has a government official been that accommodating to a church? Or, since when has a government official, like Bloomberg, ever express such admiration and support for a church being built? When has the State Department ever sent someone out to find funding for a church?
I'm not quite sure what to make of this kind of behavior, but to put all conspiracy theories aside and just call it some sort of Islam sensitivity thing our country is currently partaking in- all this political correctness is really coming off as anti-every other religion. But maybe that's the point?
My favorite part is Bloomberg's stamp of approval:
Mr. Bloomberg, in a statement, said: “This proposed mosque and community center in Lower Manhattan is as important a test of the separation of church and state as we may see in our lifetime, and I applaud President Obama’s clarion defense of the freedom of religion tonight.” (Emphasis mine .)
Hmmm, separation of church and state? Alright... And yes I too applaud Obama's stance on Freedom of Religion, I just wish he felt the same way with all the other religions as well. All this talk of tolerance and "freedom" is really putting me into the spirit, I'll be looking forward to Gutfield's proposition of a gay bar to come into fruition. Because that's what we're all about here in America- tolerance. I just hope the mosque will be able appreciate just how much more fabulous lower Manhattan will become.
