I just heard this on Fox News Radio, Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) is retiring at the end of this term. He had been elected to his seat 8 times.
I remember when there was a battle to replace Tom Delay as House Majority Leader after Delay stepped down due to the unfounded charges filed against him by Texas Democrat. Shadegg, along with Roy Blunt of Missouri and John Boehner of Ohio, were all in the running. There were many conservatives who wanted Shadegg to become the Majority Leader over the other two, including me. As it was, Boehner ended up winning; now he's the House Minority Leader.
Would it have mattered if Shadegg won? Would Republicans have retained the House at least? Can't say definitively, but I doubt it.
