This is the time of year for many employees to select their health insurance options for the upcoming year. To keep the same policy, my health insurance premiums will increase 11%. I could change options, but this is the option that is most feasible. Obama and the Democrats claimed that their new law (and it is THEIR new law) would lower costs. We knew that various insurance companies were hiking up premiums or dropping coverages as a result, but until now I hadn’t seen how my premiums were going to be affected. Now I know. And now I know definitively how Obama and the Democrats lied.
One of the other gems within has to do with Health Savings Accounts, which were instituted in my company’s insurance options this year. For 2010, I could use my HSA to pay for various non-prescription medicines (aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, cough syrup, etc.), which makes sense since these items have to do with, you know, health care. But as of January 1, 2011, I can’t get any of these medications without first getting a prescription from a doctor. For a headache. Or a cold. Or a cough. So instead of being able to use my own money from this account to relieve a minor health issue, I either have to pay out of pocket or go to the doctor. And have the insurance company pay for the doctor visit, along with all the sundry costs of that go with it. Yes, it’s only a few bucks. But that isn’t the point. It’s like everything else with this law; it’s a big, fat lie.
I’m also a small business owner. I will also be subject to the paperwork nightmare that is coming in the next couple of years that will do nothing for my business but increase costs, costs that will be significant. All thanks to the lie that is Obamacare.
