Quote of the Day, Debbie Wasserman Schultz Downplays Worries That Her Base Is Revolting edition.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a great DNC chair! If you’re a Republican.Read More »
Uber-Leftist House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi recently chided her caucus to vote for a Paul Ryan-Patty Murray budget agreement – which they didn’t particularly like – by telling them to “Embrace the suck.” Stay classy, Congresswoman.
This is the same woman who teed up the ObamaCare disaster by uttering the classic “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” Who said government unemployment checks “create jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name.”
Thank goodness she was as Speaker of the House just two heartbeats away from the Presidency. If San Francisco’s representative didn’t exist, we would have to invent her.
Ok, we could instead just substitute current-one-heartbeat-away-from-the-Presidency Joe Biden – who said the main challenge in the 2008 presidential campaign was “a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs.
Or we could turn to Presidential-candidate-to-be Hillary Clinton – who claimed for years to be named after Sir Edmund Hillary of Mount Everest fame even though she was born six years before his feat made him known to anyone outside his immediate circle. Or that she landed in Bosnia under sniper fire – when pictures show her on the tarmac calmly embracing a calm pre-teen.
Or we could use hanging-chads-away-from-the-Presidency turned Global-Warming-Alarmist-“Expert” Al Gore – who says the center of the Earth is “Extremely hot – several million degrees.” (The Sun is only 5,505º Celsius, or 9,941º Fahrenheit.)
Or we could substitute Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee – who asked if the Mars Rover would be able to show “the flag the astronauts planted there before.”
Or we could use Georgia Democrat Hank Johnson – who feared that if we stationed too many Marines on the island of Guam it would “tip over and capsize.”
Yet these Leftists incessantly insist that they know better than us how to run our lives. They say “Let us run and grow government (increasingly crowding out all things private sector) – and everything will be Heavenly-on-Earth.”
And grow it they have. The federal budget was in 1912 about 2% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In 2012 it was 24%.
The results have been disastrous. Among the endless examples of Titanic-esque failure: The Leviathan faces un-funded liabilities of over $90 trillion – with at least $7 trillion added annually.
So why on Earth would anyone want the federal government – with a century’s worth of so heinous a track record – to do more? Yet over and over again that is exactly what the Leftists are in fact demanding.
The aforementioned “huge train wreck” ObamaCare takes over 1/6 of the entire private sector. Dodd-Frank constricts even further the banking and financial sectors.
In 2011, “The Federal Register – which houses all Washington regulations – was 34,000 pages in length.…” Compliance alone costs the private sector $1.8 trillion per year – and that terrible tally is growing all the time. Because the government’s regulation opus is growing all the time.
Under particular assault has been the Technology sector. Prior to 2009, the Tech world had been governed by the rule of law – largely by the 1996 Telecommunications Act. Which was to a great extent a deregulatory document – clearing and keeping away many of the government impediments to progress.
So of course the sector progressed tremendously. The Internet rapidly became the free-speech, free-market Xanadu we all now so thoroughly enjoy. Telephones went from corded landlines and monster handsets to ubiquitous, mobile mini-computers. And the sector grew to be nearly as large a part of the economy as health care.
We have under President Obama become a nation ruled not by law, but by men. Often only one man – the President himself, governing by fiat. Because where a hundred years’ worth of Leftists have failed – he alone will surely succeed.
The Tech sector has been a particular target of this wanton government unilateral overreach.
This Administration imposed Network Neutrality. Because they will manage the complex, intricate World Wide Web’s wired networks much better than the people who spend hundreds of billions of dollars building, maintaining and developing them.
This Administration imposed cell phone price caps. Because they will manage the complex, intricate wireless networks much better than the people who spend hundreds of billions of dollars building, maintaining and developing them.
This Administration asked Congress to insert it into what should be a private sector secondary wireless spectrum auction. And is now contemplating the imposition of anti-free market rules on said auction. Because they know how the spectrum should be bought and sold – and be used once it is purchased – better than the people buying and selling it.
These Leftists are throwing the Tech sector even deeper into the Over-Regulated pit they have spent the last century digging. In with the decades of failure and financial ruin.
And We the People are supposed to say nothing – and simply embrace the government s**k.
