There are many ways to lose a presidential election. John McCain is losing in a way that threatens to take the entire Republican Party down with him.
Here's the link to Frum's article in the Washington Post. The Post, FYI, just ran an article by another conservative refusenik, Kathleen Parker, this past Friday.
Funny, but I don't recall the GOP's outlook being as grim as Frum paints it out to be. Conservative voices I respect say that this thing isn't over yet.
It will be a tough year for Republicans, no doubt. But Frum is talking about a cataclysm.
Maybe, with this article, he's trying to help his own cause. Follow me here.
Frum has been one of the leading conservative critics of Palin, right behind Parker and Peggy Noonan.
Now, if McCain/Palin pull this out, seems to me that Frum and Parker are left in political Sibera.
Maybe Frum knows that.
Maybe he's doing his best to help beat McCain, so he and Kathleen won't be left sitting out in the cold come November 5th.
For example, McCain and Palin need as much media attention as they can get. Frum has to know that the media wants to talk about anything EXCEPT stuff that helps McCain.
Frum just set himself up for a week of talk show appearances, explaining/elaborating on what he meant in this article.
Looks as if David is taking care of Number One!
And Kathleen Parker is angling to replace Elizabeth Hasselbeck on "The View."
