Commentary on Biden’s “Gird Your Loins” Speech

A Scary Prospect

Well, even though this is old news in today’s fast paced society, I figured I might as well copy it over from my Facebook:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/biden-to-suppor.html

The one big thing that jumps out at me is this paragraph:

“There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, ‘Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don’t know about that decision’,” Biden continued. “Because if you think the decision is sound when they’re made, which I believe you will when they’re made, they’re not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they’re popular, they’re probably not sound.” -Joe Biden

While Biden is correct in his last sentence, that’s also only partially true. He is implying that sound judgments are going to be unpopular. Not sound judgments also have the ability to be unpopular. Take Hitler for example. Most of the world saw what he was doing as wrong, hence, it wasn’t popular.

When I read between the lines of all his quotes, it seems to me like he’s trying to bolster the faith of the American people in his administration so that if Obama gets elected as President, we will have the faith in him to trust in whatever decision he may bring, even if that is a decision of socialism.

Another thing that I find funny is how Biden stated “I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I’m not being falsely humble with you.” But don’t they knock Palin for having no foreign policy experience? Is forgetting almost just as bad as having little to none?

The second to last section is probably the funniest. What a nice play off… Quoted:

“‘I probably shouldn’t have said all this because it dawned on me that the press is here,’ he joked.”
