You won’t read about it in the mainstream media, but there has been a major victory for proponents of the Second Amendment this week. In the face of potential financial ruin, a group of business people along with the NRA and other gun-rights groups gathered together to push back yet another effort to chip away at the Constitution.

Reed Exhibitions, a British company responsible for dozens of gun shows and sporting exhibitions in the U.S., released a statement postponing the huge Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show after they banned “certain products” from being pictured or sold.  The British company said, “ESS has long been proud to participate in the preservation and promotion of hunting and fishing traditions, and we hope that as the national debate clarifies, we will have an opportunity to consider rescheduling the event when the time is right to focus on the themes it celebrates.”

David Pisal, in a Facebook comment I thought worth sharing in part says:

“If this isn’t a politically correct, bullshit explanation! This reeks of, “When the government shoves this down your throats, we will say we told you so”. That statement, “as the national debate clarifies” should piss us all off….

We don’t need to clarify the Constitution you Limey bastards! Screw Reed. They need to get lost.”

Reed attempts to lay the blame of the show’s demise at the feet of those who were willing to support the second amendment, saying, “It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits…”

Did you notice the use of the phrase “a decision” rather than “our decision”? Just who do they think caused the boycott? For them to attempt to divert the blame onto vendors and pro-gun groups is illustrative. Reed Exhibition is obviously learning from the current administration; Divide and Conquer.  It’s that small percentage that doesn’t matter, except this time they did.  If Reed could peel off the people that sell “certain products” this year, then who knows what politically incorrect “certain products” will be banned next year.

At the time of this show being postponed, more than 300 exhibitors had pulled out, with 3 of their 4 main sponsors throwing in the towel. The Outdoor Channel, Cabelas, and even Comcast pulled their sponsorship leaving only one progressive company standing.  Although they may say the ban affected only a small percentage, the fact is that there was a major rush to the door. While there may have been some fence sitters, the writing was on the wall.  Many of these exhibitors are at the different shows every month, they know each other and how their lives and prosperity (or lack thereof) is interwoven.

These exhibitors have stuck together and hopefully continue to stick together in the future.  It’s something that the American people need to pay attention to because what we have here is a microcosm of President Obama’s plan for America. With victory comes sacrifice and many of these folks, both those that publicly spoke out and those that stood by silently have lost a major source of their income and potential clientele due to this show being first boycotted and now postponed.  I hope that the supporters of the 2nd Amendment will be cognizant of the hardship this battle has caused and seek to do business with these like-minded friends of ours.
