Really CNN??!! Is this the best you got in spin?

This is sad. But to be expected, when we’re talking Candy Crowley.  TMZ uncovered a nice email nugget from CNN’s managing editor that got sent throughout their offices yesterday which heaps praise on Candy Crowley. It highlights her ”superb” performance moderating despite being”… under the most difficult circumstances imaginable.” And then they list off all the hardship she’s been under.  Ok, to be clear here, there wasn’t any mortar fire surrounding this debate. It was just politics.  But, again, them praising her was to be expected. They are propping up one of their own and honestly wouldn’t you love it if your boss said nice things about you?

The next portion of the email TMZ put up launches off into Romney supporters going after her “…. no doubt because their man did not have as good a night as he had in Denver.” Uh, no  Mr. CNN Dude(Mark Whitaker), that’s not why we’re going after her. We’re going after her because she was biased and her slip was showing.

But when it came down to the question of time limits, CNN Dude just wandered off into weird. One of the key things about moderating is keeping the candidates within their alloted time frames. And just like the first debate, Obama was given more time Tuesday.  The email helpfully points out :

“…. it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it  even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We’re  going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more  words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time.

Obama gets more time because he talks slower?  So, you’re saying if Romney were to talk slower he’d get more time?  Oh, and you’re going to do a word count because Romney gets more words in? So Romney can think fast and make decisions on his feet. Maybe even at 3:00am.  Are you going to request the debate committee start putting in word count restrictions? The  rules pertain to time allotment not word allotment. Look, I’m sorry your guy is a slow thinker and an even slower talker but that’s no excuse for not abiding by the rules.
