President of ICE union slams Corker-Hoeven. And doesn’t have nice words for Rubio either.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council came out back in May (along with the union representing deportation agents) to publicly oppose the ’immigration reform’ bill. And since then the union has kept tabs on what the Gang of 8 has done and subsequent amendments. Carolyn May has up an article today at Daily Caller where the National ICE Council President Chris Crane is calling out senators to vote no on C-H.
ICE is deeply concerned with interior enforcement, which is to say enforcement of those already on this side of the border illegally. Corker admits his plan has nothing to offer when it comes to the interior, but said “I think a conference can improve this. So I hope we have the opportunity down the road to see that occur.” Kicking the can down the road, so to speak. And if he was honest he would admit it provides no guarantees at the border itself. So really, what good is it?
But some of Crane’s strongest criticism is focused on Rubio.
“Senator Rubio, who promised ICE officers and Sheriffs that he would take steps to repair the bill’s provisions that gut interior enforcement, has abandoned that commitment,” Crane said. “He directly misled law enforcement officers.”
“Senator Rubio left unchanged legislation that he himself admitted to us in private was detrimentally flawed and must be changed,”
“It provides no means of effectively enforcing visa overstays which account for almost half of the nation’s illegal immigration crisis.”
That last one is particularly important because you’re talking about half the problem. Notice he’s not getting into the weeds with anchor babies or any side issues. Its people overstaying visas. And the bill and amendments want to add even more visas? Just as we had doctors who were opposed to Obamacare, we have law enforcement opposed to this Gangland bill, and the C-H mess. .If you’re interested in the law enforcement viewpoint you will want to check out the whole article over at DC.
