Oh Rubio, Rubio – How the Mighty Have Fallen
Over at Real Clear Politics, I got a bit of a chuckle this morning. They highlight an interview Fox News’ Chris Wallace did with Sen. Marco Rubio. Mostly the discussion centers on Obamacare and there’s chatter about whether or not Rubio would go along with a shutdown again, which Rubio deftly sidesteps. But what was amusing was when Wallace asked Rubio if he supports McConnell’s reelection.
RUBIO: I do. I do support Senator McConnell’s reelection. I think he is trying to lead our conference. It’s a diverse conference with a lot of different opinions, and that’s a tough job to begin and, of course, he’s got to represent his own state.
The reason I found it humorous is because Wallace had led into the question by explaining how a “powerful” political action committee had announced it was supporting McConnell’s challenger. And made special note of how the challenger (Matt Bevin) was involved with the TEA Party. Since Wallace didn’t mention the committee, I’m going out on a limb and guessing it is the Senate Conservative’s Fund which announced Friday it was backing Bevin.
Is it possible Rubio forgot how much the TEA Party aided him so he could get where he is? Did Rubio forget how much McConnell fought against Cruz while Cruz was fighting against Obamacare? Did it slip Rubio’s mind that the Senate Conservative’s Fund backed him in his run? Yes, I found this all a bit funny because Rubio has made serious money off true conservatives. But it doesn’t appear Rubio is going to offer a pay back by going on fundraising tours with up and comers in the near future. Least of all, Bevin. He’s become an insider and makes no apologies. My, how the mighty have fallen.
