"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. if we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creed... we will have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow sufferers. And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes precedent for another. Till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery. And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, in its train wretchedness and oppression."-Thomas Jefferson, 1743-1826
America faces a choice in 2013 going forward. Long after the partisan battles and political posturing have receded for the day, millions of Americans will have to live with the choices made by our so called elected leaders. But for all the wishful thinking in regards to Lincoln-Obama comparisons, and the obsessive need for our media and political class to have their brand of modern era heroes, truth is our president has already failed to live up to such the standards of an Abraham Lincoln. However I can't fault the president for wanting to be Abraham Lincoln, it's probably the only role model he's ever had in his life.
But Mr. Obama aside, his failures are not to be singled out as the lone trigger of what plagues the United States of America. For long before there was President Barack Obama, there was a corporate and political community bought and sold by the highest bidder. Hand in hand they rigged a system now functioning it seems, on its own power. We've gone from billion dollars deficits to multi trillion dollar deficits and no one seems willing or able to fix the problem.
Instead they create more paper devils and straw men in order to hypnotize the public into thinking wealthy individuals as a whole are responsible for what has happened to the American dream. Perhaps our feverish pursuit of things unobtainable has contributed to the overall decline of this nation. We're no longer a people built on morality, purpose, respect, and hard work; but instead we've become jealous brats throwing our old toys because mommy and daddy refused to buy us new ones. And let me tell you there's nothing more pathetic than millions of adult babies.
Yet we have a choice if you can believe it. After all this we still have a choice to make in this new year. We can as Thomas Jefferson warned settle into our role as mere automatons of misery or we can make final farewell to the selfish little brat inside of us for good.
No one owes you anything except an assurance that your constitutional rights are protected and preserved. To all those young women out there, I don't want to pay for your birth control you feel me? If you want to clap that at some party over the weekend in the bedroom with the captain of the football team that's your unfortunate and sad choice; don't stick me with the bill after he's done sticking you.
Black folks, look Mr. Obama doesn't owe you anything either so stop looking for him to give you something. Slavery was a long time ago, America elected a man of color as president, we've had black Americans breakthrough many barriers since the time of slavery and Jim Crow. Slavery didn't make your baby daddy leave after you gave it up. Jim Crow ain't making young black men stand on the corner with their pants hanging around their butts. Black people need to stop claiming the mantel of victim and therefore looking to President Obama to give them stuff like Obama phones and Obama money. They voted overwhelming for the president in 2008 and 2012. In 2008 it was historic, but they didn't get anything out of it in terms of serious policy. The black unemployment rate was 16%, higher than the national average and in 2012 black folks still voted for President Obama. Now, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice I'm a straight up fool.
I'm tired of my race being attributed to stupidity and foolishness. Why are we the ones always played for the helpless herd so easily convinced of things that are otherwise detrimental to a race of people?
Liberty or misery America, which path do you wish to take? At the end of the day all the things we desire aren't worth the price we have to pay. If I can't afford something I just won't buy it until I have enough money to pay for it. If it takes me a long time to buy it maybe it's not worth buying. But I'll never go to my mom, as a 25 year old male expecting for her to buy me something like its owed to me.
Believe it or not there is liberty in being your own person. When you can come and go as you please, buy what you want, have a job, and a set of moral standards you start to feel better about yourself; which builds confidence and self-esteem. You wanna know why Occupy Wall Streets members are so much more angry, depressed, and hopeless than Tea Party members? It's because the Occupy Wall Street crowd for the most part are young suburban well to do white college kids who don't hold down a job or have any real responsibilities because they've never had to. Their parents paid their way most of their life and the Occupy movement was a way for them to appease their own desires to be something other than "young suburbanite whites".
Its the same thing with the woman from Greenwich Village who was arrested along with her boyfriend after police found bomb making supplies in their apartment. Apparently she had close ties to left wing high society. Which isn't a surprise because again a lot of these people are just trying to break out of their silver spoon existence and unfortunately this young woman thought domestic terrorism was the way to do it. What bugs me is when these obviously rich people try to cast themselves in the lot with people who aren't rich like we're dumb enough to think they grew up in the hood and not some gated community.
I don't know, perhaps in the end it may be a case of guilt by association where a selected moronic and spoiled few make for a rotted bunch of apples. Who knows, maybe we'll choose liberty in the end. I do know once you strip down the basic questions to young people often times you'll notice just how for "government" they are when it potentially threatens their own individual lives. There may be hope yet out there.
