On Jason Collins and the True Definition of Bravery
I Want Sports and Politics Like I Want Cake and Vodka: SEPARATE, GOT THAT? SEPARATE, As In Nowhere Near Each Other
Disclaimer: This is not an attack on Jason Collins, but on the creeping merge of politics and sports, to a level that is bound to annoy me.
Former Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks, and now current Washington Wizards big man Jason Collins recently came out of the closet as a homosexual. He’s the first active male professional athlete to publicly come out as being gay. Good for him, it’s still a sin and immoral to be homosexual, read your handy dandy bible for some insight on that.
However, what gets me about this situation isn’t so much that Collins came out, or that he’s gayer than a Chippendale’s dancer, but instead the response has been one of annoyance and overblown politically correct pats on the back from the sports and political world. Listen, coming out in 2013 America isn’t brave, it’s akin to saying you like to eat cereal in the morning and enjoy a good hamburger for dinner; in other words being gay in our country is common like the cold.
There’s nothing brave about the man, a journeyman center who’s been in the league going on fourteen years, the eighteenth pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA draft out of Stanford, he’s done nothing of note in the league besides coming out of the closet.
I’m not trying to bash Mr. Collins because he’s gay, I’m just sick of this push by ESPN and other wannabe politically in tune sports outlets, but mainly ESPN to promote this need for an current hockey, football, basketball, or baseball player to announce to the world that they’re man crazy. Listen dude, I don’t need to know what you do in the dark, because no matter how much light you wanna shine on it I’ll never accept the immoral behavior you partake in when the closet doors are closed and nailed shut.
I long for a Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy in sports where we just promote the very definition of mainstream American sports, which is to entertain the fans and give good effort to justify that 6 year 47.8 million dollar contract. We don’t need to know about the sexual lifestyles of these athletes, heterosexual or otherwise.
If cats are sleeping with horses and junk, dude I don’t need to know about it. If guys are secret polygamists, again I don’t need to know about it. I’m a born again Christian who believes the bible to the finest of the fine print; but just because I know God doesn’t approve of your homosexuality doesn’t mean I have to know what you do in your personal life.
You think I don’t know abortions are taking place? I know gay people exist, I went to high school with many of them and I’ll pray for them. With sin, it’s like a blanket word you know what I’m saying? We pray for homosexuals because they live in sin, but we don’t need to know where all the boy lovers are. What are we going to do, drop megaton bombs filled with “No-Homo” repellent on every gay bar in America?
No, Jason Collins is no more brave than a studio gangster rapper spitting lyrics about the hood but he lives in a gated community where the population is majority middle aged white country club members.
Real bravery is Chris Broussard who stated accurately that Collins’ lifestyle is against Christianity and is sinful. I bring you the book simple and plain troop:
1 Corinthians 6 -“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
Voices like Chris Broussard are the one’s risking their jobs, and reputations whenever they go against the twisted conventional wisdom of the world. Jesus said and I mean plain as Jane in the rain He said “If you are of the world they will love you as their own, but I have chosen to take you out of the world and that is why they hate you”
The world is on a homosexual agenda and if you aren’t of the world spiritually then it goes without saying the world will come against you. Christ also said the world will hate you because it hated him first, but those who stand strong to the end will be saved.
Why not applaud Chris Broussard and others who dare attempt to cut down the confused thinking of a world more lost and dead both literally and morally than they would like to admit.
So the world is saying two men can be together and two women can be together, the world also says animals should have the same rights as humans, that animals should have lawyers, that a man can have more than one wife, that humans can have sex with animals, that pornography is an accepted part of our culture, and that our government can infringe on the religious rights of American citizens even though the first amendment protects such arrogant overreach. So yeah, bump what the world would deem “Acceptable” Last I checked the freaks running this world and trying to hold onto it are more bankrupted morally than Lehman Brothers is financially.
I just want to watch the NBA playoffs without hearing about Jason Collins every five minutes. The Washington Wizards aren’t in the playoffs yet again this year so please.
Sports were the one place where we could go to escape the social and political shouting matches and agenda push being done by either side. Now we have to look forward to this stuff creeping into our favorite arenas and stadiums around which ever league we follow? C’mon son, don’t put a black eye on the game kid.
I’m Matt aka El Fantasma, and I blame ESPN for this (bleep)
