Came across a photo of the Tea Party Express Town Hall held last night in Washington, D.C. that included Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT). Immediately, I asked myself, 'what is Hatch doing there?'
Orrin Hatch, 76, is a 34 year veteran of the U.S. Senate, first elected in 1976. Ironically, he criticized his opponent at the time, three term incumbent Democrat Frank Moss, for being 'out of touch' after just 18 years.
When reviewing the six term Senator's recent voting record, it's more conservative than you may think. The biggest smear is that he voted for T.A.R.P., however, at the time, when our elected officials were being told that the world would cease to exist as we know it if this action was not taken, it's at least somewhat understandable that this would be a difficult decision. Hatch did oppose both of Obama's Supreme Court nominees.
It's not a stretch to say, and I'm sure most tea party supporters will quickly agree that America has been undergoing a slow steady decline for at least the past 20 years, if not longer. Which just happens to coincide with Orrin Hatch's watch...leading one to wonder just where was he while everything was going to hell?
Think about that for a minute. Hatch presided over the greatest expansion of the federal government in our nation's history as America 'evolved' into the secular progressive society that it is today. Not a cheap shot, just a fact.
Hatch was present and unaccounted for while Progressive Socialists came to dominate the education system in this country. As the teaching of American history was slowly eradicated in our schools and we found our children were being indoctrinated in socialist ideology. As the Democrat Party created its very own taxpayer funded voter manipulation bloc that we fondly know as ACORN today. As Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, under the direction of the Democrat party, took social engineering to a catastrophic level that eventually came to threaten the financial stability of the entire country!
I could go on and on, yet, after 34 years, Orrin Hatch is now embracing the tea party? Or is the tea party embracing Orrin Hatch? It's all so confusing.
In a recent article in the National Review Online, Sal Russo, 'chief strategist' with Tea Party Express made it a point to declare that his organization, which was instrumental in successfully defeating a number of incumbents in 2010, will not challenge Hatch in the Utah primary in 2012. Yes, the same Tea Party Express that endorsed Mike Lee in the 2010 primary, who pulled off the earth shattering upset of incumbent Republican Bob Bennett from...wait for it...Utah!
“I think he was an original tea partier,” Russo said. “He has been talking about our issues from the beginning. Orrin is a Reagan conservative, as far as I’m concerned, and that’s as good as it gets.”
And, lo and behold, there's Orrin Hatch up on stage last night at the Tea Party Express Town Hall, sharing the limelight and solidifying his tea party bona fides with Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Allen West and so on...
Now ask yourself, does this pass the smell test?
As Patrick Henry once said, "I know no way of judging the future but by the past." I also know the definition of insanity is to repeat the same action over and over again, expecting different results. And you'll have to excuse me for now, as my head is spinning, the lines are getting blurred and I'm having a real hard time telling the good guys from the bad guys any more. Must be time for my blood pressure medicine again...
