The interns who work for Illinois "Republican" congressman Adam Kinzinger might want to do a little thinking before they fire off a form letter about Sharia Law in the future. Reader Jane forwarded me the full response Kinzinger's staff sent to a constituent concerning the encroachment of Sharia Law into the US and it makes the spokesperson for the House GOP establishment on all things related to the military and foreign policy look like a fool.
Kinzinger's email response begins by acknowledging that many people inside and outside of the expansive 16th congressional district have concerns about Sharia Law, but then took things a bridge too far by stating that Sharia Law was protected under the free exercise clause of the 1st amendment and that it was his sworn duty as an elected member of Congress to defend the Constitution and by extension Islamic Sharia Law.
Kinzinger's intern or staffer also went on to claim that Sharia Law was just as important, and protected, as Christian and Jewish religious laws are.
While our Founding Fathers thoughtfully prohibited the establishment of state sanctioned religion, they purposefully did not restrict religious activity in everyday life. With that in mind, just as Christian, Jewish, and other faith tradition laws may be a part of a private court case between individuals, the same right is guaranteed for Muslim Americans.
As your representative, I swore an oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution. I take this oath seriously and will do everything in my power to ensure it is executed faithfully and the rights it guarantees are preserved for all Americans. The fundamental freedom of religion is cornerstone of our American democracy and distinguishes us from nations that do not guarantee this freedom for their citizens
This is extremely rich coming from a guy who has publicly stated that the American people simply have to accept Associate Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy redefining the meaning of marriage and nationalizing same-sex marriage and that any attempt to either punish the Supreme Courts disastrous ruling via a constitutional amendment or an amendment that would properly define marriage as being between one man and one woman would be unwise.
It is also clear from this letter that Kinzinger's staffer or intern is completely clueless as to what Sharia Law actually is, which is a tyrannical set of decrees that are wholly incompatible with the US Constitution. Sharia Law treats women worse than dirt, whereas the Constitution gives women equal rights to men. Sharia Law also calls for the death penalty for anyone who leaves the Islamic faith. Sharia Law also calls for a tax to be placed on non-Muslims who live in any area where Muslims live, if they don't pay the tax then those non-Muslims are free to either be ran out of the area by force or to be murdered just ask any Yezidi, Kurd, or Christian whose been persecuted by ISIS in Syria and Iraq about that. Sharia Law and Islam itself also insist that the only faith anyone anywhere in the world can practice is Islam. Then there is the fact that Sharia Law and Islam in general condone and promote pedophilia, so-called honor killings, the stoning of people accused of adultery, allows for slavery both of labor and for sex, and the waging of Jihad, aka Islamic terrorism against non-Muslims and Jews. And this is just a small sampling of the incompatibility Sharia Law has with the Constitution.
One would think that someone who is a major warhawk against ISIS, and badly wants to see the US military forcibly remove Bashir Assad from power in Syria(guaranteeing ISIS takes over that country), and has been at the forefront along side Senators Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in trying to get US weapons into the hands of the Syrian rebels would know better than to let something so ridiculous as this go out in his name.
Since Adam Kinzinger has said that he reads what is written about him online, I fully expect in the next few days for him to fire or seriously reprimanded whoever wrote this ludicrous email on his behalf and to issue an apology/retraction of this truly offensive email done in his name.
*Update: some former congressmen friends of mine want me to make sure you readers understand that because this email was written in Kinzinger's name he is responsible for its content.
