Anger and Divide Within the Republican Party
How will we recover?Read More »
Many of you may be aware of the devastating tornadoes that ripped through Oklahoma yesterday and today. As of this time, approximately 40 people have lost their lives and unfortunately that number will be rising. I know that there are hundreds of good Redstaters who are members of faith communities. If you are a member of a prayer chain, I would like to ask that you include all of the folks who have been affected by this unspeakable tragedy. Two elementary schools took direct hits while students were still present. All of the children at one school have been accounted for. The story of the other school is grim. Authorities believe there may be at least 24 children, perhaps more, buried under the rubble. They are no longer calling it a rescue mission, but a recovery mission and have called for the cadaver dogs. It is truly heartbreaking.
Fourteen years ago on May 3, 1999, also a Monday, an F5 tornado with winds over 300 mph made its way along a path nearly identical to this one today. While the 1999 tornado destroyed many homes and businesses and also caused loss of life, it struck when most folks were home, around 6:30 p.m. Today’s storm hit around 3 p.m. I personally live on the complete opposite side of Oklahoma City from where all of this took place. It is a surreal feeling to know that only 15 miles or thereabouts to the south so much has been wiped from the face of the earth.
Thank you for keeping my fellow Oklahomans in your thoughts and prayers. We need one of God’s miracles today.
