The Watercooler ~ IRS Targets Gamut of Conservative Activists [Updated w/Kevin Kookogey]
UPDATE: 8/2/2013 I thought I would update this diary so that those of you who may not have ever heard of Kevin Kookogey — one of today’s speakers at the RS Gathering — could listen to his inspiring testimony on Capitol Hill. The diary will give you the context. It was originally written June 4, 2013.
I was able to watch the testimony on Capitol Hill today regarding the political targeting and harassment by the IRS of numerous groups who were seeking 501(c)3,4 tax-exempt status. It was exhilarating to listen and watch average Americans unashamedly speak truth to power. All of the speakers were inspiring and presented themselves as proud Americans ashamed of and angry with their arrogant government.
Of particular interest was the fact that out of the six people who testified, only three of them represented Tea Party groups. Diane Belsom, President, Laurens County, South Carolina Tea Party, Dr. Karen Kenney, President, San Fernando Valley, California Tea Party Patriots and Becky Gerritson, President, Alabama Tea Party. Also included in the shameful targeting was John Eastman, Chairman of the National Organization for Marriage, Susan Martinek, Coalition for Life, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, (whose group was promised approval of tax-exempt status only if the entire board would sign a promise to never protest in front of Planned Parenthood — compliments of Lois Lerner herself) and Kevin Kookogey, President, Linchpins of Liberty from Tennessee — who described his organization as involved in teaching youth conservative principles of American Leadership Development.
Shall we dare to think this is only the tip of the proverbial political harassment iceberg?
For your pleasure, I included the testimony from Kevin Kookogey. From it you will get a feel for the quality of the testimony that was heard today.
The Watercooler is always an open thread.
