"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold." Matthew 24:12
As much as we like to blame the other guy for the woes of the nation, it's getting harder and harder to excuse anyone from complicity in the wretched condition the country is in.
Intrigued by the near inability of most in the media -- including the most conservative pundits -- to call out President Obama for the habitual liar that he is, I found myself comparing what Obama is doing to Nixon's sins -- the ones that led to him being the only president in U.S. history to resign from office. And, relatively speaking, at that time in American history, the Nixon administration -- and Americans at heart -- still maintained at least some sense of right and wrong. Enough at least for Nixon to be forced to admit his wrong doing had permanently impaired his ability to carry on in office.
Granted, Nixon's decision to resign was forced because the handwriting was on the wall and the votes were there in Congress to impeach him for his Watergate crimes. But, at least in the seventies, this nation still had enough moral strength to find bipartisan agreement when a politician crossed the line of unacceptable conduct. When their behavior was so morally outrageous that both parties would agree to remove them no matter the political consequences.
Not so in the Obama era.
I won't bother to recount the numerous scandals that seem to bounce off of Obama like water on a duck's back. We all know what they are. And, at a minimum, they easily reach the level of Watergate crimes. But some, Fast and Furious and Benghazi for example, far surpass anything that happened at Watergate.
Where's the moral outrage? Why do we seem impotent to muster the courage to say enough is enough? Sure. We can all blame the Democrats. They are the ones who stand in the way of impeaching Obama. They are the ones who have evolved into the party of stop-at-nothing, no-holds-barred evil and unscrupulousness. And it's the biased media's fault, too, because in the presence of Obama, they see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil thus impeding the naive public from getting at the truth.
While all those things are true, there is still a frightening amount of silence and timidity in the nation as a whole when it comes to moral outrage over the continuous stream of lawlessness and scandal in the Obama administration. And the bottom line, to me, is that just like we could have won the Cruz-led rebellion to undermine Obamacare had the Republicans had the courage to stand their ground until Obama was forced to retreat, if Americans were furious enough about the crook in the White House, the Democrats could be forced to take action.
The only explanation I could think of was the scripture I quoted above. Jesus had to be speaking of the times we're living in. And the Obama administration's multiplied lawlessness -- among other things -- has caused the love of many to grow cold.
Apathy and lukewarmness seems to be paralyzing us from saving ourselves. Or, as others have opined, we get the government we deserve.
