John McCain is running for re-election to US Senate in 2010 and has already formed an exploratory committee to start raising funds.
So what you will at least this takes on headache off Republicans in 2 years. I doubt any strong Dem will challenge him.

Well,
John Steele Tuesday, November 18th at 9:59PM EST (link)How about an actual Republican challenger?

If Governorn Napolitano doesn't take a Cabinet job
mbecker908 Tuesday, November 18th at 10:20PM EST (link)she could probably beat him. She’s term limited as Gov & can’t run again. She’s also the only Dem in AZ with serious statewide name recognition and she won her last election going away.
There are, incidentally, more than a few Arizonians who detest McCain.
Too bad
SeriousLaff Tuesday, November 18th at 10:28PM EST (link)I was hoping for a Republican to pickup the AZ Senate seat in 2010.
Primary Him (n/t)
IJB Tuesday, November 18th at 10:32PM EST (link)Right now I'd say there isn't a Republican in AZ
mbecker908 Tuesday, November 18th at 10:35PM EST (link)who can beat Napolitano.
OTOH, I’m not sure there’s a Dem who can get elected Governor.
McCain can't be beaten in the R primary.
mbecker908 Tuesday, November 18th at 10:37PM EST (link)Unfortunately.
I hate those
dld1717 Tuesday, November 18th at 10:37PM EST (link)I hate wasteful Primaries which cause the Dems to sit back and relish what is happening to us
I hope we have no primaries for any of our Senators cause it cause us to lose the seats
You never Learn
dld1717 Tuesday, November 18th at 10:39PM EST (link)Primaries are bad I hate them especially when a incumbent is really the only who can hold the seat
I hope none happen here or in PA for example
Napoliatano is popular but I don’t think she could beat McCain and I think his decision to run again will make her not run and wait till 2012 to challenge Kyl who is easier to beat
with all respect to my boy Mbecker
Doc Holliday Tuesday, November 18th at 10:53PM EST (link)primary the man we ran for president? Yeah, that would make us look like real leaders. McCain will have a tough enough time with the ever changing demographics, Red states are turning purple, AZ by immigration from the South and from the West.
Molon Labe!
Doc...
mbecker908 Tuesday, November 18th at 10:57PM EST (link)not my idea. And there’s nobody who could come close.
If, for instance, Shadegg wanted the job (which I doubt) and had a good shot at winning (which I’m sure he doesn’t) I suspect McCain could be talked into retirement. As it stands, I might as well run against him because nobody stands a better chance. And I’m pretty sure my wife wouldn’t vote for me. :>)
McCain Represents "Old Republicanism"
IJB Tuesday, November 18th at 11:05PM EST (link)He needs to go.
Conservatives will never be in the driver’s seat in the party unless we take a page out of Kos’ book, and go after people like McCain and Lindsay Graham (and Ted Stevens - and look what not going after him got us!).
They are the past of this party.
We need to build a new party. Without these guys as “leaders”. This is what it’s all about.
Napalitano?
SeriousLaff Wednesday, November 19th at 12:46AM EST (link)I would rather see her beat McCain than Kyle.
Like campaign finance
SeriousLaff Wednesday, November 19th at 1:02AM EST (link)McCain is going to get screwed by his own policies. Importing immigrants to vote against you is a dumb idea and his desire to hand this country to Mexico is not getting him any new votes.
I hope he does get a primary challenge. He was only the nominee because it was thought he could win, not because many Republicans like him. Most I know absolutely hate him but voted for him because Obama was worse. I still can’t believe we gave the nomination to someone who has been trashing Republicans on television for the last eight years.
I actually wish he would resign NOW. Napolitano has to name a Republican and ANY republican would be better.
McCain vs. Napolitano
NoKoolAidForMe Wednesday, November 19th at 1:16AM EST (link)While I got my issues with the way he ran his campaign, he’s still the best bet to keep the AZ seat. I can’t think of anyone else to run besides Sheriff Arpaio (the Maricopa County Sheriff who made the prisoners wear pink and live in a tent). He’d run an interesting campaign, and I know he’s a Republican.
2010 will be a mid-term election, and there’ll be much to campaign against in two years time. Both Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi should be given the Bush treatment and vilified. Let’s leave Barry out of it until 2012.
I don't think primaries are bad
Spiral Wednesday, November 19th at 11:13AM EST (link)Primaries are healthy.
The reason why the Republicans in Congress are so spineless is they know that they will never have to face a primary challenge from their Right. So they move to the Left in the hopes of making themselves unbeatable in the general election.
This tends to work for a while, until the American people notice that Republicans don’t stand for anything except getting reelected.
I wish we had more strong primary challenges against people like Ted Stevens and John McCain.
If we could get some conservatives nominated, it would actually be worth voting Republican again.
The Obama Bread Lines
Shadegg is great
Doc Holliday Wednesday, November 19th at 8:21PM EST (link)seems the old guard is staying in place on the Hill :(.
