As noted before McCain has already formed a exploratory committee to run for re-election
NC Burr (R)
The Times-News of Hendersonville reports that Shuler, who was recently elected to his second-term as a Democratic Congressman from North Carolina, could be looking to challenge incumbent Richard Burr in the state’s next Senate election
Nevada Reid (D)
Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki confirmed in an interview Friday that he was inching closer to a 2010 challenge to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight), and said that he had begun the process of reaching out to national Republicans in an effort to lay the groundwork for a bid.
KY Bunning(R)
Senator Bunning over the weekend indicated he has plans to seek a 3rd term to Senate in 2010. Bunning has never won more then 51% of the vote and Dems are hoping Congressman Chandler challenges him.

exitsfunnel Friday, November 21st at 1:59AM EST (link)I would say that the news that Obama is going to give Napolatino the DHS slot is at least as important as McCain’s exploratory committee, as without her in the mix, his reelection should be smooth sailing.

We re-take Shuler's House seat
TxCon (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 9:44AM EST (link)if he runs for Senate. If we expose his voting record to show he votes nothing like a conservative democrat, then Burr should win.
Exactly - Shuler Running for Senate Could Be The Best Thing That's Happened To Us
IJB Friday, November 21st at 11:36AM EST (link)…in a while.
It’s little moves like this, all ramifications of the Dems being way too overconfident, that when all added together could help turn things around.
Shuler running makes it likely he’d lose to Burr (esp. if things are going to get as bad as I expect them to), and that in turn makes it likely we could retake Shuler’s House seat.
We need to encourage every “Blue Dog” Democrat we can to run for Senate against our sitting GOP Senators.
It’ll be the quickest way to render them politically irrelevant, while simultaneously making it much easier for us to take back their House seats. [grin]
On Shuler
dld1717 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 3:09PM EST (link)What I don’t get is why did the NC GOP allow him to have a free re-election campaign although?
Are we underestimating his chances?
Here in the People's Republic of Kali....
Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 5:10PM EST (link)…would someone PLEASE do something about this Boxer freak? Should we settle for Arine in the Senate or draft Hugh Hewitt?
I'd take Arnie in a heartbeat.
mbecker908 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 6:56PM EST (link)Unfortunately, McCain will win in a walk.
mbecker908 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 6:58PM EST (link)Personally, I’d prefer to see him retire and see John Shadegg run to replace him.
I don’t think McCain’s ego will let him retire and I’m not convinced Shadegg wants to stay in DC for any reason.
CA GOP needs Arnie
dld1717 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 7:37PM EST (link)I hope he makes the plunge cause even a liberal moderate Republican like him is better then Barbara Boxer.
Draft Hugh
SteveLA (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 7:41PM EST (link)Draft Hugh. After what we are about to receive from the girly man Governator in terms of a tax increase, I’d love to see Hugh run. He’ll probably loose but he would run an intelligent campaign based on real discussions of the issues confronting this state and his conservative view of the answers to same.
I won’t vote for Boxer, and I won’t vote for Arnie, I just won’t vote in that election if it comes to a choice of those two.

Staying home is a vote for Boxer.
Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:11PM EST (link)Personally I’d love to see HH in the Senate, but if I had to I’d vote for ANY GOP candidate to rid us of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Well...I won't
SteveLA (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:19PM EST (link)Boxer is indeed a looser, but Arnie with the junk he is doing now on the state budget is worse. I won’t vote for him.
Just like when he ran for Governor all on his own, I voted for the Libertarian as a protest. Probably do the same thing if he gets the nomination for Senate.

We have to go after North Dakota's senate seat
Spiral (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:21PM EST (link)North Dakota is a state that has not voted for a Democrat since 1964, yet it has 2 Democrat US Senators.
We need to target Byron Dorgan. It’s not expensive to run ads in ND.

Spiral, One Problem with ND...
Wubbies World (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:31PM EST (link)There is not many Republicans with enough name recognition that can go up against Dorgan. I know it sounds crazy, but unfortunately it is true. Those that do have the ability to go against him have already said no to running for that seat. That has me baffled too.
As crazy as it sounds, the state of South Dakota has that problem too. It is a very red state, on a state government level, but when it comes to Federal office, they can never seem to put up candidates who can win except on a rare exception.
It has baffled me the entire time I have lived here. I wish I had a better answer, but it is the reality.
Somebody who is smarter than me with these things needs to figure this out.

Agreed, why we don't challenge those ND senators has always puzzled me (n/t)

Reid has to be a top target
Nelsen (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:37PM EST (link)We must get the right person to run against him because I believe this is a very winnable race and getting him out of DC would be BIG.

dld1717 (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:58PM EST (link)There are plenty of Republicans in both states in fact almost every single statewide office holder in both states are Republicans.
We need to start challenging these folks and both House Races too.
Maybe we need to convince some celebrity that's a Republican to move there
Finrod (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 8:59PM EST (link)I kind of doubt that Jon Voight, Dennis Miller, or Ben Stein would want to move to North or South Dakota, though.
Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?
I used to joke with people that North Dakota doesn't exist
Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Friday, November 21st at 9:08PM EST (link)For proof, I’d challenge them to name a single person they knew from North Dakota.

I actually like John McCain ...
exitsfunnel Saturday, November 22nd at 1:02AM EST (link)probably more than about 90% of the posters on RedState, but at this point I do sort of feel like it’s time for him to call it a career. My strong, strong preference though would be for Flake over Shaddeg to make a run at the seat.

My God! I Actually Agree With SteveLA!
IJB Saturday, November 22nd at 1:51AM EST (link)But I’ve avoided voting for Arnie twice now, and everything he’s done since has justified my refusal to vote for him.
He could certainly never get me to vote for him for Senate, even against Boxer.
Besides, I strongly feel that the voters of CA deserve Barbara Boxer (and so much worse!).
California is ungovernable
Spiral (Diary) Saturday, November 22nd at 5:57AM EST (link)I hate to say it, but the problems with California go beyond Arnold Schwarzenegger or Gray Davis (the Democrat governor who was recalled by the voters in the fall of 2003).
California’s Constitution requires a 2/3rds vote of both houses of the legislature to pass a budget plan.
California’s electorate is tilted heavily to the Left.
In 1992, California voted for Clinton over Bush by 13 points while nationwide Clinton won by 5.5 points. In 1996, Clinton beat Dole in California by 13 points while winning nationwide by 8.5 points.
In 2000, it got much worse. Nationwide, Gore won the popular vote by 0.5 points (even as Bush narrowly won the electorate vote). But in California Gore beat Bush by 11 points. In 2004, Bush beat Kerry nationwide by 2.5 points but lost California by 10. And three weeks ago Obama won nationwide by about 7 points but won California by about 24 points.
So, the legislature is lopsidedly Democrat controlled. And has been for decades (except for 1995-1996 when the GOP had a 41-39 seat majority in the state assembly, but within that 41 seat caucus they had several Republicans who worked with the Democrats to maintain Democrat control for about a year.)
It’s just very difficult to run California in a conservative way when the voters are so far to the Left.
That said, Arnold should not be doing what he is doing now: encourging the state Supreme Court to void Proposition 8. That’s unconscionable.
The Obama Bread Lines
Bunk
SteveLA (Diary) Saturday, November 22nd at 11:19AM EST (link)California has the line item veto…if Arnie was not a girlyman, he could use it like the sword of Conan on the CA budget.
Cut…and cut some more and then cut even more.
Republicans in the CA assembly might craw out from under their desks and uphold the Democrats as they try to override his vetoes. I did vote for Arnie in the recall, just for the scenario above, guess I got fooled.
And Spiral, who gives a rat’s patatooie about Arnie and Prop 8? I voted YES on 8, and I’ll vote for the recall of any Supreme court justice that overrules me twice, and I could care less about gay marriage or for that matter what the Governator thinks of the will of the people.
