2010: Congress/Senate News (KY, OH, KS, CT, ID, PA) Post Yours

We must start working on taking back the House/Senate so here are some updates on the 2010 Races:

KY Bunning (R)

Daily Kos Poll

Bunning leads Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo (D), the only Democrat who has made his candidacy official, by 46 percent to 42 percent. He’s ahead of Attorney General Jack Conway (D), who has made his interest in the race clear, by the same margin.

Conway and close ally Crit Luallen, the state’s auditor, have said they will not run in a primary against each other. If Luallen opts for a bid instead of Conway, she begins with 41 percent to Bunning’s 45 percent.

Bunning leads Rep. Ben Chandler (D), who has walked back from his initial skepticism on entering the race, by a 45 percent to 42 percent margin

KS Open Senate Seat (R)

A new Research 2000/DailyKos poll in shows Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) would be a very strong candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010, leading two likely Republicans challengers by double digits.

Sebelius also has a very solid 56% to 37% approval rate in a what is generally considered a safe Republican state.

CT Dodd/ Governor Race

Fmr Congressman Simmons (R) has indicated he may challenge Senator Dodd in 2010 or if Gov Rell does not run for re-election for the Governors mansion.

OH 1 Steve Driehaus (D)

Former Congressman Steve Chabot will try to win his seat back in 2010.

ID 1  Minnick (D)

Former Idaho Republican congressman Bill Sali is planning another run for the U.S. House.

Sali, who lost his House seat in November to Democrat Walt Minnick, filed a statement of candidacy this week with the Federal Election Commission. The paperwork indicates Sali will take the same “Sali for Congress” name used in his 2006 and 2008 campaigns.

PA 6 Gerlach (R)

Pennsylvania Rep. Jim Gerlach, a politically moderate Republican who has narrowly won four House elections in a district that is trending Democratic, took a formal step Thursday toward a campaign for governor in 2010.

Gerlach, whose 6th District takes in suburbs and exurbs west of Philadelphia, announced that he had filed papers with Pennsylvania election officials to establish an “exploratory committee” that would allow him to raise and spend campaign funds as he weighs whether to become an official candidate.

He lost a safe Republican seat.

    He’s *done*.

If he’s stupid enough to run again, I hope he gets just one single credible challenger in the Primary so he can be taken out.

Let’s put somebody up who can actually take Minnick out, shall we?

But I still wish you wouldnt cite him. He doesnt need to be legitimized. Any word on coleman. He had a good week. We could use his vote right now.

….and we need to fight anyone in the GOP who is trying to push him out. He is among the most conservative members in the Senate.

Sebelius is a joke, and VERY liberal, particularly on social issues. I wouldn’t put a ton of stock in those numbers, since Democrats like Sebelius fare quite differently in federal races rather than state races. Plus, Tiahart and Moran don’t have statewide name recognition like Sebelius does.

Hopefully Tiahart wins the primary. Moran is a bit of a moderate. We need a staunch conservative to come out of Kansas.

“I’ve supported many tax cuts over the years, and there are tax cuts in this proposal. But a tax cut is non-targeted.

If you put a tax cut into the hands of a business or family, there’s no guarantee that they’re going to invest that or invest it in America.

They’re free to go invest anywhere that they want if they choose to invest.”

    Nooooo…can’t have that…

So far the Dems have 3 serious candidates in MO, NH and KY and the Republicans have yet to field anyone in MO, FL, NH, and even CO

The NRSC needs to get its act together

We need to pressure Castle to make run in DE, Kirk to make run in IL, Lingle to make run in HA, Huckabee in AR, King/Guiliani in NY, Rell in CT, Arnold in CA, Owens CO

We need to start getting these Dems on the offense; no way do we allow them to get free rides to them put our members on defense

America’s next Republican Senator, hosted by Sean Hannity with guest appearances by Rush.

The GOP is heavily disadvantaged from the start. Particularly, when it comes to fielding potential conservative candidates for the US Senate.

Given the enormous expense of conducting a state-wide race, a candidate who has the ability to self-finance is fast becoming the norm and will likely become mandatory. Unless, of course, your fundraising is Supplemented by Soros.™

Most successful conservatives, those who are successful in life, family, business, community and church, reject the destructive level of political discourse emanating from Washington, and they wouldn’t dream of subjecting their families to the same treatment encountered by Gov. Palin’s family. Many others simply could not, or would not, stand or accept a cut in pay. And for some, there’s much in their lives that’s far more important to them than a political career, and it’s far more rewarding.

At least, that’s true for many I know.

Why has not one significant GOP candidate been named yet in Fl, MO, and even CO? Yet, we have 5 running for a possible open TX Senate Seat more then 2 years away and it may not even come to pass?

Its so critical we start getting the best candidates and even if they may not be the most conservative people its better then having a Republican win then not. I mean if a Gov Rell won a seat in CT thats a plus for us and a seat the Dems should right now have.

I really think we need to pressure Gov Owens in Co to run

It looks like Dems are going to get behind LT Gov Fisher
