Et Tout Le Monde: Nothing more irritating

being stuck without an “Open Thread” that is just “Open” so that someone can vent about what it is that is bothering them.  Most of the time for me, it is about some of the swingers-by that come by just to cause trouble. So for all, use this blog as an “Open Thread” to download your stray thoughts, outbursts and irritations.

I do not think I have ever really had an argument with a Conservative on this website, more like discussions; however, I find myself stuck blabbering to some drive-by just looking to cause trouble.  One night it was Warkarma; another night it was some chick that called me “daft”; now, it is a Global Warming Enthusiast that has not posted on Redstate for at least a month or so.

The problem is, why do I argue with these people in the comment section?  Maybe, I think, I have to find a way to prove these “morons” (keep in mind these people aren’t morons, just a different view) wrong, or I just need to play their game.  Either way, my advice to everyone is the following, do not argue with these people because most of the time they only want to drag you down, tick you off, or get you to say something that you will regret.  I further advise to all the new readers around here, save your strength for people you have seen around on a regular basis.

Why?  Because those usernames that are recognizable from your reading of the comments section or the diaries themselves usually have given you a context of their mindset, thought process or political leanings.  It is like getting to know one another; therefore, when it comes time for an argument with them you will display considerable respect for the person.

Why? because it is easier to argue respectfully with someone that you share common ground with.  What is unusual about myself is that I find myself still arguing with those people who I have nothing in common with.  That is almost every position they have is antithetical to my own, and I will never change their mind no matter what I say or do.  Of course, the same can be said in the reverse; however, those individuals who I know and have a read on, usually stand a chance of convincing me of something missing in my logic or reasoning.  Of course, again, the same can be said in reverse.

So, for all of you out there reading this that have found themselves in an argument with me that has turned sour, I apologize, I do not know you very well and I most likely read you all long. We probably would get along in real life, there is no doubt about it.

Lastly, as I step down from the soap box, I have to say that many people make spelling errors in the comments section and sometimes miss words resulting in bad grammar; therefore, if you can understand the point the person is trying to make, ignore the spelling and grammar. It is thought that counts; even Physicists need their Maxwell (mathematician). If not, just ask for clarification. Do not strike out quickly at peoples’ thoughts in the comments’ section because many people find that their fingers do not keep up with the speed of their brain. Without error check or Ctrl+z, we are left with the error for all the world to see. So lighten up a little bit, we know we misspelled something or got the grammar wrong, and we are embarrased (misspelled on purpose) about it. Do not rake us over the coals for it.

I believe you will continue to oppose libels, slanders and lies, because if truth is not defended the lies will become the perception of truth, though never the reality. And the more lies that cover our perception of reality the more cognitive dissonance between reality and the conventional lies that obscure it will drive people into madness.

As Robert Stacey McCain wrote somewhere (no link, sorry) Lies are the domain of the father of lies, old Nick himself, Satan, Lucifer, Baalzebub, the Lord of the Flies. Everything the Devil says is a lie. Just like everything that Stalin said was a lie. This does not mean that libelers, slanderers, and liars are the Devil, but they do his work either intentionally or through ignorance.

It’s like the Matrix. The libels, slanders and lies come from two types of people. Some of these people understand that what they are telling are lies. They tell them intentionally because they think that by force of will and cleverness they can change reality to suit their notions of dialectical materialism or the Divine Will. They are the Devil’s servants and must be opposed. They may someday come to regret their lies, but fixing the liars is beyond the ability of most people. Liars should be opposed at every sentence, word, syllable, and letter. And they should be banned from discussion sites like this when they are identified because they will always sow lies and discord. The other type is the chump, the sleeper, who has been brought up in a world of lies where the truth is always denied. The chump dances to the siren songs of the Devil’s puppet masters but doesn’t think about why. When challenged roughly the chump fights with violence and insult but does not think about truth or falsehood. But every chump can be approached in some way in which he allows himself to examine his own beliefs using somewhat more stringent tests than “Oprah said it so I believe it” and other appeals to authority. This may lead him to discard some of the convenient or politically correct lies that obscure truth for him. Continued engagement might bring him out of the Matrix entirely.

And that is where it is worth it.

I wasn’t reading them, but I noticed that the two of you had a “dialogue” going last evening.

As “Contributors” we’re encouraged to “engage” in the comments, but at some point you have to stop the slide into increasingly trivial nit-picking that’s only a one-sided attempt to try to trip you up over trivial things, rather than to grasp and understand.

When someone trots out the tired old game along the lines of “it was a warm winter here in (wherever)” as “proof” of AGW…. all the while claiming that snow in Houston, New Orleans, Las Vegas, etc. means nothing and can’t be interpreted as countering the AGW claims…. further “discussion” is pointless.

It all becomes low-grade rhetorical game-playing to try to trip you up on minor word interpretations.

That said, the comment above is correct that we have to work hard to make the countering narrative public and readily available.

Along those lines, unfortunately I had to leave the event on Tuesday before it was completed, due to a scheduling misunderstanding – so I missed Christopher Monckton’s barn-burner of a closing address. You will probably like it, so here’s the link:

What you say is quite the thought that I did not consider. I am guilty of the following: “chump fighCts with violence and insult but does not think about truth or falsehood.” So sometimes when I start out calm, I allow these people to rattle the chain and make me sound like the “chump”; great point I will try to keep this in mind, keep cool do not let them drag you into the ‘chump” mode, because they are dying to make you out or project you into that position.

soiling your post the other night, I just thought I could rein in that guy, I wasn’t very successful at it. I took your advice a lttle too late in the evening when I said I would give him the last word. Immaturity on Redstate, may be the cause, and I am slowly learning to pick battles, as you can see I still sometimes choose unwisely.

and lastly, on the lines of AGW, what I think many fail to understand is that when you make a hypothesis about AGW and its reality (laugh) the burden of proof falls onto the person making the wild claims, not the people who present countering arguements or aspects that have not been considered as part of the AGW proof claim. It only takes one thing that contradicts the hypothesis to make it wrong or incorrect. This is how scientists proves or disprove hypothesis. Oh, and thanks for reporting on ICCC, we appreciate it here.
