Pay-go A way to connect to moderates

I know this post will probably get me a bunch of hate mail on this site.  And I myself think it is used mostly as a stunt.  But I do think that insistance on hard pay-go rules this session of congress has the ability to fork apart the so-called “Blue Dogs” from the rest of the left of the Democratic party in the congress.

I favor supply-side tax cuts in any year that the Republican party is in control in Washington. I think that tax cuts followed by responsible spending priorities are what will save us economically. But as I have said before, we have a monster building in Washington. Part of the deal is we aren’t articulating a plan that the “Blue Dogs” could support. So, I suggest that we attack that problem by offering them something that they claim to want. If we could get a Pay-go point of order against all new spending measures, we at least would force the Democrats to support open ended tax increases, which is what they avoid by running up spending and then passing on un-godly amounts of debt.

Moderates, by definition, think that the Republicans are to blame for this current mess. I dont think this is true, but that is the way it is. And Democrats are capitalizing on this by stating that we aren’t offering anything new. So, we should call their bluff, and make them vote against something they have supported, Pay-go. I think hoisting the opposite side by their own petard should be part of what we want to do.

We will fork the “Blue-Dogs” and the Republicans will then be seen as the reformers. Even if it was a joke, at least then we’d have another point to raise against the Democrats’ corruption. Conservatives need to think outside the box. Our leaders in congress need to do the same thing. We need to be imaginitive with our positions to make the Democrats reel a bit. Right now, they just say same-old same-old, and we lose the country. Let’s think outside the box. They are not popular, but Republicans rate even lower because we are perceived as offering nothing. So let’s go out and offer the traditional policies with new ideas and attack the Democrats as the clones of the 60′s and 70′s which is what they are.

Have at me! I know paygo is not popular on this site, but it is a way to ridicule the Dems. I’d like to see more of that from our side!

drohan seems to be looking at this from a purely partisain point of veiw. Id like to hear some views of what fiscal conservatives think of this rather than just strategy on how it would affect republicans vs dems.

Fiscal conservatives want less spending and tax breaks, less government intrusiveness.

fiscal liberals are for more gov. spending which causes higher taxes.

But i feel like whichever way you feel about it spending more money than you have is a bad idea…

While i could see conservatives would like this law because in order for them to create a tax cut they would also cut spending which would be a double bonus but at the same time a liberal would increase spending paired with a nice tax increse unless they cut spending elsewhere.

While i see that this isnt something to fix our system won’t it at least put some restrictions on what the government can spend? If a rule like this had been in place would we not have had been able to pass a trillion dollar spending bill?

    with Obama, Reid, Pelosi?

Anybody who doesn’t vote with these clowns are at least moderate. Pay Go as long as the Asian Central banks buy the Reid, Pelosi, Obama inspired bonds in the trillions. If they pay, then the US Goverment goes.

Point of Order? What are you smoking? What sign of any order? I know I dream of a Congress that believes in the ole adage that READING IS FUNDAMENTAL. Taking time to read and debate would be A START to a POINT OF any ORDER in this God forsaken Federal government.

    Have a good day.

in spending now? Where would you cut a trillion USD worth of spending to pay for this budget?

You do understand that the Central banks worldwide may not buy our debt?

    Have a good day.

they eschewed PayGo rules once they became the majority and they had the presidency.

The Blue Dogs wanted PayGo rules to get a hold on budget and spending against George Bush and Republican tax cuts. That is where they become problematic for we conservatives.

However, we should support PayGo to restrain Democratic Spending. The rules are still supported by the Blue Dogs. We should do it fork the Democrats and make their coalition even more unwieldy. Part of our job as the opposition is to make their life hell while governing.

If the 45 or 50 so-called moderate Democrats and Blue Dogs defect on spending, that will kill them in their appropriations later this year. We shouldn’t support PayGo all the time, just as a novel creative tactic now.
