Why is Charlie Crist a pariah? I seriously want to know…

I just want some actual clarification.  I know that he was out in favor of the stimulus, which was a mistake, but he is solidly pro-life and has a good rating from the NRA.  I was thinking about sending money to the race, and I think that Crist is very popular amongst the people needed to win the general election.  I know that Rubio is a good man too, but I would like to back a winner.

I understand the stimulus support and embrace of the president to be a faux pas, but I think he has been solid in other areas.  I know the editors of this site really support Rubio, and I don’t know much about him.  So as of now I will likely give to Crist, because he has an actual statewide electoral record.

I don’t think Crist is as bad as Scozzafava.  Can someone shed a little more light on this subject for me?

ON top of the fact that I believe he actually raised taxes in FL as gov. after promising that he would not.

People, (me included), are sick and tired of having people that are supposed to be representing us (Republicans), going along with stupid democrat ideas and then allowing the democrats when things go bad be able to play the, “That legislation was bi-partisan, hence not our fault”. When things that were truly bi-partisan (think initial authorization for the Iraq war), get easily played of as Republican’s fault when things don’t go as planned. So right now we want solid people who aren’t going to play nice and support x to get y knowing that x is going to destroy everything hence not giving that political cover.

The stimulus, “Cap and Tax”, no off-shore drilling (except of course where there is no oil), he claimed credit for mandated budget cuts, budget cuts pushed through by the state legislature, and generally anything he can claim credit for.

If taking away guns was in any way popular in the state of Florida (it is NOT, by the way), I seriously doubt he would muster a D rating with the NRA.

His political machine is smearing Rubio with the same kind of lies and half-truths through anonymous front groups — in a virtually identical way — that it smeared his GOP primary opponent for governor the last time around. In short, we’ve seen Charlie’s approach to winning before, and it is best described as “attack Republicans.”

When faced with pressure in the Senate, it is hard to imagine Charlie — now just 1 voice in 100 — suddenly abandoning this principle and supporting party, even when it is not popular to do so. With Crist, you run the serious risk of another “centrist” vote, which seeks to curry personal favor with Democrats — at expense of his party — any and every time he believes he can get away with it.

(This is the most damning indictment of Governor Crist with regards to supporting the Stimulus. He did not believe it could hurt him personally, but it sure helped him with the Democrats; and his support helped provide cover to Obama’s agenda.)

He has no political philosophy aside from that which is expedient at the time in order to obtain, maintain, and increase his power (which is to say, he’ll fit right into the Washington political class).

Crist called himself an Arlen Specter Republican a few days before Specter switched parties.

      He is pro-abortion.

      He raised taxes.

      He supported the Stimulus bill.

and worst of all he is not supporting Marco Rubio:)

we do not need another Arlen Specter. Especially since Specter only quit the party to save his bacon in the primary, which probably won’t work either. I have already given a little to Pat Toomey.

I want strong conservatives in Washington. I had no idea that Crist was so squshy on some of these issues. I will wait a while. I don’t think Charlie Crist is as liberal as Specter though. I think he would probably be on our side a lot more than Kendrick Meek.

I plan to do some research on Marco Rubio. I just want to make it plain that anything to keep the seat in GOP hands is fine by me. I also don’t think we can hold a governor completely culpable for taking “free” federal money.

If he raised taxes, if he is really pro-abortion, which I have found no evidence of, then I will not be able to give to him. Thanks for all your help.

If you want to know what Obama’s Health Insurance “Reform” will do to your health insurance, look at what Crist’s Homeowner’s Insurance “Reform” did here in Florida.

It included a “Strong Public Option” — and has crowded out the private insurance carriers. “Citizens” (the state-run insurance scam) is now the largest homeowners’ insurance provided in the state, even though it is mandated by law to charge a higher premium than any private carrier. Why would individuals choose to pay more for less coverage, and switch to the Public Option?

    Because they have no choice.

For instance, State Farm has announced that as of next year, they will no longer renew any homeowners policies in the state — forcing most of their customers inot the (higher priced) Citizens pool. This gives Crist, and Tallahassee, more control over who can get insurance, where they are allowed to build, what they can build there, and how much it will cost them — NOT local development and zoning boards. Thus, it is a stalking horse for more centralized control, and less local freedom.

Crist’s response to State Farm’s announcement, that will cost Florida homeowners billions of dollars in higher premiums? “Good Riddance.”

Bonus Question: What will Obama’s response be
when Aetna announces it can no longer afford to offer health insurance under the new regulations and conditions? My bet: “Good Riddance.”

and the Florida House got those standards stopped cold. He’s an Arnold RINO. He had to lower taxes to balance the budget. He raised a whole boatload of fees, with driver’s license fees getting close to doubling. In Florida now, you have to get a fishing license to toss a line from a causeway or even on the beach shore or your backyard dock, unless it’s a cane pole (please don’t ask me why the cane pole makes a difference — they must have a good lobbyist.) He welcomed stimulus money because it made his job easier, not if it was best for us. Selfish politician.

for that he is dead to me. Cap & Trade (he supports, his words) is nothing but a MASSIVE, MASSIVE, MASSIVE TAX HIKE 10 years out it will cost each family of four $ 3,500 annually. All of it is based on a hoax. Global temps have been falling.

This fact is so INCONVENIENT that the gloabal warming marketers had to drop that term and change it to “Climate Change”. This is the quintessential tax for a politician:

    it is:

A Stealth tax – they refused to let you see the cost by printing the amount of the tax printed n the receipt of every purchase yu make (yes you pay it on every purchase you make).
The amount of the tax is not fixed. It rises every year, just like a Congressional Salary.
It is premised on a unprovable premise so it never needs defending once passed.

Yes Charlie Crist supports this. He will violate his pledge not to raise taxes and then look you in the eye and lie tell you it is not a tax.

You say in your post that you would like to back a winner. How many people said the same thing and voted for Barack Obama? Just because somebody can win doesn’t mean he/she is the best person for the job. So people voted for a winner, and look what’s happening to our country with that “winner.”.

You need to take the time to do some research on Charlie Crist and don’t just believe what he says. Check on his voting record. Also, remember you are known by the company you keep. Everyone that surrounded Barack Obama bad-mouthed this country at every turn. We should not be surprised at what is happening now. Look who surrounds Charlie Crist. If he’s surrounded by the “moderate” Republicans, then don’t think for a minute that he’s a conservative. He’s not.

  • mbecker908

    You’re right, he’s worse.

  • http://www.the41stvote.org rcov092

this is the argument the current leadership has been using for the last 10 years…hows that working out for us? It is a very real possibility, given current circumstances that Crist could lose the general. The base grows increasingly disenchanted with his as the economy grows worse here in Florida.
