Silver Linings: Election Night 2008 Part 2

Tried to sleep and can't until I get this out

I already copied and pasted and bit from The Corner that summed up a lot of what I’m feeling, but I have to get a few things off my chest before I sleep.

First for the truly positive any way you look at it silver lining of tonight: Mitch McConnell, my senior senator from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is going back to Washington to run rings around who ever the Senate Majority leader ends up being. (I’ve read a few rumors on teh interwebs that there maybe a shakeup among the Dems for that position.) The man is a genius at using the rules of the Senate to the Minority’s advantage. If we are going to be almost completely dependent upon using the filibuster to prevent the worst parts of the leftwing moonbat agenda from going through, then I can’t think of a better man to lead our side. Mitch is crafty, smart as a whip, and damn cunning. With him in command of our troops in the Senate, we may be able to make it to 2010 without completely losing the various battles against gun control, higher taxes, nationalized healthcare, and all the other items on the “progressive” agenda.

You also have to live in Kentucky to appreciate how wonderful it is to see McConnell win in the face of spiteful attacks from the two largest papers in the state. For a state as deep red as Kentucky is, we are cursed with two of the most out of touch leftwing rags you can imagine in the Lexington Herald- Leader and the Louisville Courier- Journal. Their editorial staffs HATE McConnell so much that his victory tonight has got to be ruining Obama’s victory for them, at least a little bit. That makes me a little bit happier.

Hopefully McConnell’s victory tonight puts the final nail in the coffin of Bruce Lunsford’s political ambitions. It’s another Kentucky thing, but Bruce Lunsford is, simply, a jackhole. There are no other words to truly express how much I hate that guy. Suck it, Bruce. You lost again. Ha ha.

So that’s the positive, feel good silver lining that I have for tonight. Now on to the recriminations that are, in my opinion, silver linings as well:

Silver Linings: Election Night 2008

We are finally done with McCain

As I write this, Obama leads with 190 electoral votes to McCain’s 129. Ohio and Pennsylvania remain awarded to The One. It’s safe to say it’s over, barring some honest to goodness miracle west of the Continental Divide.

So I was going to start a long diary entry about how great it is that we can be rid of McCain when I ran across this post in the Corner. Since The Shield is on, I’ll just paste it for you and write my own obit tomorrow.

Silver linings: Early edition

Mitch McConnell will be back in Washington, pinning "Kick Me" signs on Harry Reid.

http://www.kypolitics.org/kypolitics/2008/11/surveyusa-mcconnell-headed-for-8-10-point-win.html

I am doing my best to remain optimistic about McCain pulling out an upset on Tuesday, but at least one very important race is close to being called early. Senator Mitch McConnell will most likely be headed back to Washington to throw monkey wrenches into the machinations of Obama and his Congressional stooges. His opponent in this race, jetsetter and all around D-bag Bruce Lunsford, should go down to an 8- 10 point defeat if the latest polls hold.

I know many on Red State tend to get down on Mitch, particularly after the bailout, but the man has been a very effective thorn in the Dems’ side. He isn’t perfect and one of his main selling points this election cycle to the folks back home has been the amount of pork he sends back to us. Still, the KosKidz and MoveOn.org losers wanted him gone, as a sort of revenge for the defeat of Daschle years ago. It’s not going to happen and for that I am glad.

No matter what else happens on Tuesday, this is one race that I, both as a Kentuckian and a Republican, will take comfort in.

Embracing the Suck: 2008 POTUS edition

We had to have Carter to get to Reagan, but we had to have Nixon/ Ford to get to Carter

I have reached the point in this Presidential campaign where I have come to accept the very harsh reality that, barring some terrific (and horrible) game- changing event before election day, Barack Obama will be the next POTUS.

Ugggh. I just threw up in my mouth a little, but steady on.

“Dirty word” Brookhiser

A longer explanation of why I quit lurking and joined Redstate

As stated in my first diary entry, I have been lurking around Redstate for quite sometime. I’ve come to enjoy the points of view of many of the long time contributers and have often wanted to make points of my own, but last night finally pushed me into taking the time to set up a profile.

So what was it that pushed me over the edge? A post I read over in NRO’s The Corner. I’m sure many of you have seen it or have at least heard about it. It was Brookhiser’s infamous “numinous negro” riff that I have copied and pasted below:

We have shown the same color-by-numbers mindset that liberals did when they rallied to Obama. Liberals love Obama because he is a Numinous Negro. Conservatives love Palin because she has a Downs baby and an M-16. For both sides, that is all on earth ye know and all ye need to know. You might call it mystical and childish.

And my first immediate, gut response was “VERY dirty word that rhymes with ‘truck’ Rick Brookhiser.” Had Mr. Brookhiser been able to receive an E-mail from the Corner, I would have sent him one that read simply “Word I refrenced above you!”

And I realized that one of the things that has irritated me to no end this election cycle has been the elite condescenion coming from OUR side of the aisle.

Thus spake Dukeboy

or why I joined Redstate

So, I’ve been lurking here for quite awhile and decided to take the plunge into blogging. That’s it. I will probably post very rarely but I hope to be a worthwhile contributor to the Redstate community. I’ll probably have a longer post later, but I have some family obligations to attend to now.
