This is just a Friday afternoon shot across the bow for the Five Idiots — Graham (SC), Chambliss (GA), Thune (SD), Corker (TN), and Isakson (GA). Early Monday morning (just in time for our favorite readers) I will offer up a more considered and more responsible statement. Given what you have done, in one asinine move, to undermine America’s future energy policies, and how much money you have taken out of Americans’ pockets, Monday’s note will probably be nastier.
After listening to Senator Saxby Chambliss embarrass himself on Limbaugh this afternoon, I am struck by how…….stupid, how gullible, how tone-deaf you guys really are.
But here’s the bottom line. Mainstream Americans vote Republicans into Washington, and we don’t vote you there so you can become the Democrats’ prison bitches girlfriends.
Just a little more….
We are coming for you. You are unfit to serve. You will be primaried, and you will lose. Even if the best primary opponents we can recruit are dogcatchers, they will be CONSERVATIVE dogcatchers who know themselves, love freedom, and don’t grab their ankles every time Harry Reid comes around offering a lollipop.
[UPDATE - a couple of things here - First, it looks like Wednesday morning before I can do the promised follow-up. I'm trying to get a webstore up, and it's a pain. I am making and selling political tee-shirts, please buy them! (subliminal ad here....) Meanwhile Erick is sticking it to the Five Idiots, keeping the pressure on.
Second, it has been called to my attention that both Graham and Chambliss are up THIS year, having handily won primaries, and are both shoo-ins for November. This makes of my diary title a promise I am unable to keep. Ah well, my aim remains the same. I plan to remove these 5 skunks from the garden, and if it takes 6 years to do it, then so be it. But between now and 2014, I plan on rendering these guys inconsequential. I will have blood.

We want the TRUE all of the above solution, not one the places noxious restrictions on the only production portion of the bill. Keep the alternatives, fine. But America wants drilling!

Graham and Chambliss have aleady won their GOP primaries this year and are likely bets to win in November.
Graham won his primary in an overwhelming fashion, 67-33 against a former GOP National Committeeman. He even won a larger percentage than the governor Mark Sanford, won in his primary. And as for November, he’s a shoo-in.
Chambliss is the GOP nominee in Georgia and is a very solid bet to win in November against a little-known Dem opponent.

One wishes for a Constitutional article that allows the people to call for a special election and throw all the bums out. One really does. If ever there was a time when the American people needed to start over from scratch this would be it because we are not that far off from being a socialist country.
Oh, and as we throw them out, require them to pay back every cent of every pork barrel project they included in every piece of legislation while bemoaning the deficit and military expenditures… out of their own pockets. If they want equality so badly, we’ll give it to them in making them as poor as they have made us.

Hillbilly Politics
This is what you get
Achance (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 8:59AM EDT (link)when your candidate recruiting ground is the Rotary, the JayCees, trade associations, etc. Far too many Republican politicians are simply good salemen, the R is the brand they’re selling. In The South, especially, if D were still a winning brand, the same guys would be selling it. Very few R politicians have much in the way of thought out political beliefs and even less in the way of thought out political methods. I believe this is why we’ve been so successful in coming up with messages that resonate with the res publica and dismally ineffective at actually implementing programs based on those messages.
It is the rare R candidate or officeholder who could hold his or her own in the political/philosophical debate that goes on here. Hell, there’s lots of them still who can’t/won’t use a computer – and are proud of it! It’s almost like the office culture used to be where no manager, and most were men, would be caught dead typing their own correspondence. I’ve worked for several even in the last few years who wouldn’t deal with their email; they’d have some staffer go through it and summarize anything that might be of interest to the officeholder – and this wasn’t because of the volume, which would make sense, it was because they just wouldn’t do it.
The Ds can field winning candidates with backgrounds in unions and other interest groups, as political attorneys, occasionally academia; these are people who breathe politics at both the intellectual and operational level.
We have plenty of political intellectuals and operatives at the staff and consultant level, but few run for office and because of the Republican “hail fellow well met” culture, the “staffer” types really don’t play well with either the candidate/officeholder types, who tend to see them as divisive, controversial, and “unfriendly” types. The very worst thing you can do in the Republican culture is cause controversy; doesn’t matter if you’re right and the other side is the vision of evil, you’re the bad guy for causing the controversy by pointing it out. The Ds and the media know this about us and their lynch mobs are almost always effective; we lynch our own, doing the Ds work for them.
These guys like Graham, Chambliss, et al. (and, yes, McCain) just see one of those awful controversies and are compelled to step in and DO SOMETHING, and that something isn’t to achieve any political or national interest objective, it is simply to stop the awful noise of controversy. I think especially in Graham’s case, he stuck it out there in the impeachment, saw what it got him, and nobody’s going to get that man to do anything controversial ever again.

But are under the impression that the Idiot Five are giving us that? No, they signed on to a prettied up version of the Dem plan — make it look like we’re going to greatly increase domestic drilling when in fact just adding more entanglements, more litigation, more regulation, and probably NO more drilling — and if I’m wrong about that, so is Limbaugh.
In the process, what they’ve done — shortly before an election that we are about to CREAM them on the drilling issue — is allow the Democrats cover to PRETEND to support drilling by supporting this bogus plan, all the while knowing it is a crap plan. Obama endorsed it. What does that say?

Say what you really feel!
jonlester (Diary) Sunday, August 10th at 12:11AM EDT (link)Seriously, I was disappointed when Vernon Jones lost the Senate nomination runoff. He’s responsible for his own campaigning mistakes, of course, but he really did have something behind the seemingly novel “conservative Democrat” label he ran on; indeed, his very affiliation as a Democrat is mostly due to DeKalb County realpolitik. Unfortunately, Jim Martin is too close to the wrong kind of Democrat candidate from this year’s field, philosophically.

Sorry to say that most of us
dbecraft Sunday, August 10th at 1:29AM EDT (link)tend to take a Republican’s word over a Democrat’s. Now that alone is good, but what if both are lying? Well, we still ten to take the Repupublican side, but what is the Democratic side? If you are like most of use, you are an independent and still trying to find out the facts.
Well, welcome to the real world… Democrats lie, and Republicans lie… Now who are you going to vote for?

"We can do it better" is Democrat
Achance (Diary) Sunday, August 10th at 4:46AM EDT (link)for we know it is overwhelmingly popular, we don’t dare oppose it, but we’re going to stop it. The “we can do it better” game is so integral to the D playbook that ANY R who allows himself to get sucked into it should be taken out and shot (figuratively, of course). I simply don’t know how someone can get to high office and not recognize this play immediately and attack it. Yet we keep sending fools into office who “in a bipartisan spirit” assist the Ds in stopping vital initiatives by talking about how to “do it better” for years.

And they'd change brands in a heartbeat
Achance (Diary) Sunday, August 10th at 12:45PM EDT (link)if the change promised more success. For most of these guys, the party banner they run on is the same as the brand a NASCAR team runs under; whoever offers the best deal and the best chance of winning. In the South, the res publica abandoned the Democrat Party, so the same old hacks who’d been playing minor league politics all along raised an R up the halyard and became “Republican” leaders. Well, they’re not really leaders of anything and fly that R flag with about the same conviction that a rustbucket tanker flys the Panamanian or Liberian flag.
And I’m not really picking on The South, it is just the best example since the brand shift was so sudden and dramatic. In my own state, the old Democrat coalition that ran the State for almost two decades after Statehood, wouldn’t let anybody in and crossed swords with the Oil Industry. If you wanted in and whispered sweet nothings to the oil lobbyists, you could run as an R, get money, and get elected. Consequently, the Ds lost control within a decade of oil becoming the major force in Alaska politics. You couldn’t buy a conversation about politics at a philosophical level from most of the Rs here; they only thing they know about legislation is who wants it. One once put it very starkly to me when he told me he didn’t need to read the bill, he just needed to read the sponsor list.

Time for a recall effort in SC
Haley37 (Diary) Sunday, August 10th at 3:28PM EDT (link)I place the blame on this sellout on Lindsey Graham’s shoulders. It is simply unfathomable for me to comtemplate why there has been no RECALL effort to remove him, especially since the Gang of 14 sellout.
Seriously, SC may as well have a Democrat in the U.S. Senate for all the heartache that Graham has caused.
This much is clear, Lindsey Graham cares little about the Conservative Agenda. He wants to give 12-20 million lawbreakers citizenship, he was instrumental in NOT getting more qualified judicial nominees confirmed and now he’s selling us out on oil drilling.
I’m going to do some research into SC election law and see if a sitting Senator can be recalled. I would strongly encourage sickened SC voters to do the same.
Nothing will change with this fool until you change it. Begin the recall effort now.
Graham's been acting like this for years.

Sounds reasonable to me, EPU. But not
janis (Diary) Monday, August 11th at 10:00AM EDT (link)to the other side apparently. All I hear from the Dems I know is the wailing that “All the Republicans care about is money and the corporations who make it.” To which I usually respond, “Who do you think provides the jobs in this country and, by the way, do you have investments? If so, are your investments in some Mom and Pop store, or in corporations?”
They shut up at that point, but they do a lot of eye-rolling.
Thanks, EPU
Achance (Diary) Monday, August 11th at 10:11AM EDT (link)Business people, managers still give little assurance that the person won’t run from controversy. I’ve worked for some “captain of industry” types who were absolutely clueless about how to get a government to do ANYTHING.
What I think we need is a coordinated effort at the State and National Party level to identify and cultivate people within government and the interest groups as possible candidates and, especially, as staffers and appointees.
The weakness is most evident in the fact that NO Republican can staff all the appointed positions in a state or the federal government with loyal, competent Republican appointees. Consequently, they put a thin veneer of appointees in place, only some of whom are competent, and leave bunches of Democrats in place. Then the Democrat sleeper cells leak, thwart, and sabotage the Republican Administration to death. And, since Republicans must be “nice,” the Administration doesn’t hunt them down and shoot them like dogs in the road. I assure you that the Democrats do; first they fire everybody who ever thought a Republican thought and if you cross them, you’re down the road.
It’s compounded by the fact that so many Republican officeholders won’t listen to the competent staff and appointees that they do have because they’re so conflict averse. Again, its the saleman attitude of keeping the mark saying yes, avoiding anything that might offend. They just don’t seem to get it that there is no way to “get to yes” with someone who doesn’t share your interests. It is a Democrat’s job, his life, to hate Republicans, yet stupid Republican salesmen keep trying to do things to get Democrats to like them.

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Monday, August 11th at 11:26AM EDT (link)You are so right about all of this. I don’t know the whole Achance story, but I know you have seen alot of “governance” up close and personal, and I’ve learned from your insights on Alaska’s politics of oil, graft, influence peddling and the like.
It is just extremely frustrating, the business of getting the bureaucratic houses cleaned. I see the problem. I am frankly stymied as to what to do about it.
You are saying they should recruit from (in essence) conservative activists, because what they are doing now is not getting enough good, dedicated and smart guys to properly clean house. I like that.
In this respect, I totally have the same mindset the Dems do – cold-blooded, ruthless “ethnic” cleansing. That is in fact what I want in the electoral sense in the Senate and House. I want clowns like Graham and Chambliss out of there and replaced by DeMints, Coburns, and Cornyns.
I’m all about a big tent, but I want the governing people to be conservative, and I want to persuade moderates to our point of view, not compromise away all conservative principles to buy voters.

Wait a minute, GC
Joe_Schmo (Diary) Monday, August 11th at 5:26PM EDT (link)Technically, you have a point. The title needs to remain as is though. This is a sell out bill that lets the Democrats off the hook and for that, we need to spotlight it. There are two points we can make with this particular EPU headline.
First, it’s about time someone put these guys (and the RINOs) on notice. The constant bend over for the Democrats must end. If they want to operate this way, then we can work against them in the future. Notice can be served that, not only do they lose our support, we will be working for the next 6 years to throw the bums out.
Second, they read the tea leaves and learn how to govern as the Republicans we thought we were electing and they might actually survive this. That one will need to be pretty convincing as it will be one of those “call off the dogs” moments which won’t happen on rhetoric, but will have to have deeds done to accomplish.
I think EPU did good in the “serving notice” part. Ace has already done it too.

One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson
