Get used to the term ‘new low’.
Obama is at 46%.
In a short 7 [ed.] months, Obama and the Democrats have completely busted the gigantic piggy bank of public good will they began with. I won’t recite here their well-chronicled drunken spree of bullying, dishonest, underhanded, bait-and-switch tactics that have served to tank a fragile economy and betray the trust of Americans. Amusingly, while their support has been eroding steadily in previous months, they seem to have been caught unprepared for the huge outcry of public frustration during the August recess.
Now polls show unmistakably that Americans are rejecting the leadership of Obama and the Democrats. Percentages, according to Rasmussen today:
- 46-53 : Obama’s approval rating, a new low.
- 27-69 : Congress knows what it’s doing on the economy.
- 25-54 : congressmen understand legislation before voting on it.
- 22-47 : congressmen have a good understanding of the health care bill.
- 57-25 : would like to replace the entire Congress.
- 43-38 : would vote for a Republican for Congress over the Democrat.
- 43-53 : support the overall Democrat health care plan.
- 23-43 : strongly support Democrat health care plan, vs strongly oppose.
- 65-26 : believe CIA waterboarding of terrorists elicited valuable intelligence.
The news gets even better for America. Obama comes back from his taxpayer-paid vacation at posh, exclusive Martha’s Vineyard, and Congress reconvenes after the August recess.
Now is a great opportunity for the Democrats to examine themselves, to see why the nation is rejecting them.
.

.
Sadly, my prediction is that the Democrats in Congress will double down - attempt to take over the health care industry, in spite of fierce opposition by Republicans and most Americans. Obama will open his mouth in front of microphones, and if he holds true to form, he and his minions will berate all ordinary Americans and label them racist, stupid, short-sighted, racist, racist, and most of all, racist.
Americans are watching now, and we are a proud nation, proud of our heritage, jealous of our freedom, and resentful of oppression. Expect more new lows in polling.

I am not so sure
10ksnooker Monday, August 31st at 2:13PM EDT (link)That passing government run healthcare would be bad. It’s very likely to touch off a huge backlash … And maybe a giant house cleaning.
Big risks ahead for Democrats, as they have neatly pained themselves into a tight corner.

civil_truth Monday, August 31st at 2:20PM EDT (link)A substantial portion of ObamaCare would be irreversible because of the dependent constiuencies that it creates. Just see how the legacy of the New Deal and the attendant government expansion has persisted through conservative adminstrations.
Once the federal government expands and the courts rule it Constitutional, it’s almost impossible to reverse it. Heck, we can’t even trim Cabinets, such of the Department of Education. And even if you appear to cut off a tenacle, it either grows right back under a different name or doubles.
Read up on the Hydra myth - which also gives the solution.
And Rightly So!
Even if it were
cwilson Monday, August 31st at 2:30PM EDT (link)theoretically reversible, given the dependent constituencies it is designed to create as pointed out above, it is not practically reversible if they manage to pass it. Here’s why:
Obama is still the President. If, in 2010, the good guys take over BOTH houses of Congress, and pass a bill repealing Health Care Socialization — The Won would veto. You need 2/3 in each house to override a veto. That means we’d need a 224 vote swing in the House and a 54 vote swing in the Senate, in the 2010 elections.
Not. Gonna. Happen.
So, if it is to be stopped, it must be stopped now. To pretend otherwise, or acquiesce because it’d be “good” (just not quite good enough) for us in 2010, is selling out America’s future and the freedoms and health of 320M Americans, for political gain.
No thanks. Stop it now.

jimmuy8 Monday, August 31st at 3:02PM EDT (link)Even if they can’t repeal it, what’s to stop them from refusing to fund it? E.g “Cash for Clunkers” without any cash.
When those dependents show up at their local Obamaland Health, Muffler and Auto Financing Clinic and the doors are locked, they’ll be the loudest calling for its repeal.
Holding the line as a majority and refusing to fund it is a nuclear option but, it forces them to double down–publicly and loudly–on something that will get more and more unpopular.
That's My Point - You Can't *Force* Funding For Something Via Veto
IJB Monday, August 31st at 4:27PM EDT (link)Vetos work best to nuke proactive spending and new program creation.
But it’s very difficult to use it to *force* spending.
I think a GOP House would have the upper hand in defunding something like this, esp. being a new and not fully-implemented program, provided they hold the line and don’t fold their cards.
Democrats don't think they are being rejected,

The day I'm waiting for
Finrod Monday, August 31st at 3:31PM EDT (link)Is the day when Obama’s total approval is less than or equal to his strongly disapprove numbers in Rasmussen. Then we’ll know the tide has seriously turned against him. Considering that he’s at 46 approval 41 strong disapproval as of today, that day might be coming sooner than we think– my guess is October 20.

Wow
E Pluribus Unum Monday, August 31st at 6:10PM EDT (link)That is noteworthy. Holy cow, that’s quite a core of ’strong disapproval’ people. IMO, when everybody gets back to Washington and the Dems renew their efforts to jam this through, these numbers will intersect soon enough.
If I was to guess, the Dems will try a few new focus-group-approved terms (they’ve already substituted “co-op” for “government plan”), a little shake-and-bake, a little behind-scenes persuasion-by-tire-tool of Blue Dogs, and count on the press to spin it as popular support and get it past the House.
I also predict that Americans have already decided that “no health care bill of any kind” is the only solution that will not bring out wholesale revolt.

Indeed
Finrod Tuesday, September 1st at 12:44PM EDT (link)Even when Bush was down around 35 percent total approval on Rasmussen, the strongly disapprove number didn’t get above the mid-40s or so. Today’s update for Obama: total approval of 45, a new low, strong disapproval still at 41.

Clinton understood, Obama doesn't
texas214 Monday, August 31st at 3:39PM EDT (link)Bill Clinton understood that when HillaryCare, his version of Cap and Tax, and other liberal proposals failed he needed to move to the center to save his presidency. Obama has shown no interest in moving to the center and the American public is starting to see the results of the ‘08 election in a new light.
My belief is that it’s not in Obama’s DNA to move to the center, nor would it be believable at this point.
The GOP needs to make sure we have a good, viable candidate in 2012
suzieQ Monday, August 31st at 4:01PM EDT (link)And we need the data on exactly why his numbers are falling so much. I know some of it is because of many on the left who feel he is just like Bush. I talk to people every day who are upset because he hasn’t pulled out of Iraq yet, or hasn’t closed Gitmo yet, or hasn’t given us socialized medicine yet. While these people may add to Nobama’s disapproval numbers now, they will not vote republican in 2012.
We need to make sure that when the opportunity arises, we have a true small government, less spending, real conservative to challenge him when that time comes.

Don’t worry. The government is here.’”

The Generic Congressional Ballot Numbers Don't Lie
IJB Monday, August 31st at 4:32PM EDT (link)I agree with you that at least some of the “53% disapproval” (even some of the “41% strongly disapprove”) numbers are from embittered Lefties who are mad that Obama hasn’t thrown all Republicans, conservatives, Jews and observant Christians into the ovens yet.
That’s why a perhaps more useful metric is the “Generic Congressional Ballot” number - while there may be embittered Lefties who disapprove of Obama, they definitely are NOT going to show up as prospective GOP voters!
Therefore, the R+5% numbers on the Generic Ballot question is a *real* effect, and indicates the unpopularity of Obama and the Dems’ programs and policies.
Even if the dissatisfaction...
skorrent1 Monday, August 31st at 5:23PM EDT (link)Of the left is factored in, that’s not a bad thing for the GOP. A lack of enthusiasm by the Dem base could lead to good things in ‘10 and ‘12. One might say that a lack of GOP base enthusiasm in ‘06 and ‘08 aided the Dems.

r0per Monday, August 31st at 4:56PM EDT (link)Would somebody please get Mike Pence off of television. He has to be the worst spokesman for opponents of ObamaCare I have seen so far. I just watched an interview in which he let Debbie Wasserman-Schultz walk all over him and use up about 3/4 of the interview. If we win any seats back in 2010 it will be a miracle and only because the Dems are more adept at shooting themselves in the foot than we are.

One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

R+5% Is Very Good Historically
IJB Monday, August 31st at 8:47PM EDT (link)Because of the historical legacy of pro-Dem gerrymandering, a R+5% spread among likely voters would very likely lead to a GOP take-over of the House.
What I’m more troubled by are the actual numbers: 38%D to 43%R - that means a full 20% of *likely voters* won’t commit to voting for either party yet (or plan to vote 3rd Party).
*That* to me is troubling, though it may be that Rasmussen isn’t “pushing” ’soft-leaners’ to one party or the other at this point, and so ’soft-leaners’ aren’t showing up in the numbers - I imagine Rasmussen won’t start “pushing” that way until Fall of 2010…
Haha, I got that call
E Pluribus Unum Monday, August 31st at 10:16PM EDT (link)The significant thing about the R+5 is the history. Check here for a more lengthy history. The change has been rather dramatic.

Obama to make televised speech to nation's schoolchildren 9/8 during school day
katesmith Monday, August 31st at 5:48PM EDT (link)Just heard this discussed on radio show, alleged reason is pep talk for kids to do well in school. Many parents won’t know about this until after the fact, will not have the opportunity to view it along with their child. Will be mandatory viewing for all kids during taxpayer funded public school education time. More from his servicewire.org, project of Youth Service America. It is highly inappropriate for many reasons. If parents knew, perhaps they could stop it or keep their kids out of school. Children have been told to sell their parents on global warming. What will it be this time?
Wow
sickofitall Monday, August 31st at 6:01PM EDT (link)Our glorious leader is a murderer, a tyrant, a panderer, a lair, a racist, a Marxist and he hates our country. Now we can add being a child manipulator and a hater of educators as well. W never had a mandatory broadcast to school children about going to war or fixing dole (excuse me, I meant social “security”). How pathetic! I hope that the dagger to his heart that this historic failure represents will be the first shot in the war to dismantle the welfare/nanny state and put important decisions about healthcare, aging, retirement, education, etc etc, back in the hands of the people who should make them- honest hardworking God-fearing Americans!

Just read the Wall Street Journal article (8/26) that stated Obama and his entourage “took over the entire Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Moscow for three nights in June.” I wonder if the Chosen One stayed in the best suite which costs about $16,000 per night. I understand the need for security and all that, but geesshh.
