It’s time for the Adopt a Congressman Program

It’s great to get our opinions out on RedState and share ideas. It would be even greater if we put those ideas to work. I suggest that RedState (or some other group with the resources) set up an Adopt a Congressman Program (this includes Senators). Yes I can hear the groans already, but let’s think about this for a moment. We don’t have to wait until 2010 to make something happen. We can start doing something today.

If you sign up for the Adopt a Congressman Program :

  1. You would be assigned a Congressman (or 2) to look after. Yes they would be GOP Congressman with some rare exceptions. Assignments would be done by RedState or someone else to insure that adoptions are distributed evenly.
  2. Follow that Congressman’s voting record. This is easy enough with the Internet.
  3. You would send emails or snail mail to the Congressman on a regular basis providing feedback on pending bills or just encouragement when they get something right.
  4. You would promise to support that Congressman’s campaign when they came up for re-election. This could mean donating money (even if it’s just a few bucks), making calls for the Congressman if possible or, if your in his or her district, actually volunteering.
  5. If you have the means and the time you would occasionally post a brief report on the Congressman here at RedState on how he or she has been doing. Have they been responding to the voters? Have they introduced any legislation we should know about? Have they pulled any bone head moves?
  6. In all this the bottom line is to get them to be accountable to the people and the country they represent.

I’m in Massachusetts so my Congressmen and Senators are the mooniest of the moonbats. It’s a lost cause here, but it may change some day. I would love to support other Congressmen in other states who are doing a good job, however, and so would most of you I think.

In unity there’s power. If our Congressmen realize there’s an “organization” out there made up of serious, conscientious voters watching them, encouraging them, supporting them and providing valuable grassroots feedback I think we can have some impact on the political process. It beets sitting around and complaining.

Just a suggestion…

These narcissists are nothing if not beholden to the “love” and kind words given to them and that is not to demean any of them BECAUSE it does take a special kind of narcissist to run for office any office :-)

Whoever has his enemy at his mercy &
does not destroy him is his own enemy

I hope ResState or some other group will facilitate

If the RNC had any brains…they would do it, but I don’t think politicians like the idea of being monitored by their constituents.

I’ll keep pushing the idea and see if it flies.

“Liberals are always talking about pluralism, but that is not what they mean. In public school, Jews don’t meet Christians. Christians don’t meet Hindus. Everybody meets nothing.”- Dennis Prager

I love this idea!

I have tried to be responsive in this manner - but I feel I need to do more than just contact my own (Tennessee) senators - both GOP, they are doing about a B- job right now - OK on fiscal issues for the most part (after TARP 1) but squishy on cabinet nominees… So I’ve at times gotten ambitious and emailed all of the GOP senators - which can be a little overwhelming. Some senators need more “encouragement” than others, and I’m not sure someone else is going to get to them, so I try to help out… But this would be great - divide and conquer - we can count on the RS Army to be diligent, and to get the right message out. I’m all for this. If someone is keeping tabs, please sign me up also.

I will keep pushing the issue

RedState has the know-how to taget the right Congressman and Senators. It wouldn’t require a whole lot of resources other than that. Please spread the word to your friends and let’s see if we can get this to happen.

This is a great alternative to sitting around and complaining

I have been sending emails to Erick hoping he will at least consider something like this. It really puts the “Act” in “Activism” in a way everybody can participate in.

So how is your push for an adopt a Congressperson going EagleWatcher?...

I had hoped to see this jump up the recommend list so that more eyes could see it so here is praying that you get a bigger response to your suggestion today :-)

I am still pushing

Tell your friends at RedState to recommend if you can. If we don’t get active then we don’t have the right to complain. This is just one of many ways to make our concerns heard by the political class. Let’s remind them that they work for US.

Terrific idea EagleWatcher

It would be easier for many to monitor the actions of a few. Most often we find out about legislation when it may already be too late to do anything about it. If you are keeping track of one or 2 Reps. or Senators, you know when they introduce legislation, and can track it through it’s progress.

Yes

EagleWatcher Tuesday, March 3rd at 9:55AM EST (link)

With the Internet it’s easy to keep an eye on our legislators. If they know that there’s a group of voters watching them intently they’ll think twice before making a bonehead move. I have no delusions that this will change the whole process. It’s just an easy way to get more people actively involved. RedState has lots of visibility with Conservatives and they could make this fly. Unlike many political sites RedState encourages activism instead of whining.

I receive updates on votes and upcoming votes from :

olsmithie Wednesday, March 4th at 12:13PM EST (link)

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/megavote/

I have used this for a while, seems to work well.

It shows me that Congrressman Patrick McHenry, and Sen. Burr are pitching away in our corner, while Kay Hagan is rubber stamping every socialist bill that comes down the hill.

RE:Hagan (Just as expected. ACORN activity was at unprecedented highs during the election in NC. ie One ACORN employee was registered in 3 states.I personally confirmed the NC one.She listed a UNC Charlotte Professor’s home address Of course with a Dem governor nothing will be investigated.)

But I digress. After you have the vote info and the upcoming vote info, be sure and correspond with your Representatives and Senators, letting them know how you feel, frequently!

And probably, just as important, let them know when they have done well, not just when they screw up.

Regards

Excellent points

Now if I could just convince RedState to keep track of the adoptions I thinks we could make this work.

It’s not hard and I think people would be willing to get involved instead of just sitting around and complaining.
