It’s been a long week. Actually, it’s been a long 14 months.
For the last year, those of us who love this grand experiment called America have seen assault after assault waged against our liberties, our freedoms and our Constitution. And sometime in the next 72 hours, we will know whether those who wish to impose their vision of an America where freedoms and liberties give way to the all-knowing, all-controlling state from which our Founders freed us, will be able to strike a massive blow against the America we love.
If there was ever any doubt that these forces of tyranny would engage in lies, deceit, subterfuge, theft, bribery and a host of other nefarious schemes, the actions in the past months of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid cabal have put those doubts to rest. And today? The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives shredded the Constitution and paved the way for the rule of men rather than the rule of law.
It’s been a long and exhausting fight, and as I perused comments and diaries this afternoon, it became evident that many who have manned the ramparts and filled the breaches with every ounce of vigor and strength within their being are exhausted, tired, and weary of the battle. I understand that weariness; I understand the aching knot in the pit of your stomach; I understand the sense of inevitability that invades your soul. I understand those things because I have experienced them all.
But to my RedState brothers and sisters who have fought so valiantly, I implore you to not despair…do not give up the fight…this is not and will not be over until it is over. And that time has not yet come.
Fellow lovers of freedom, we must not, we dare not, at this moment that our country needs us the most, allow our fears to overcome us.
This is not the view of a naive Pollyanna. I do not believe that there is no way we lose this fight because we all know that the forces arrayed against have no morals and could give a rat’s hind end about the rule of law in their zeal to impose socialism and tyranny on us.
But the fact remains that they’re the ones running uphill not us. They are the masters of lies, subterfuge, misdirection, bribery and fraud. They. Have. No. Morals. But I believe in my heart that they still have a mountain to climb, and a raging torrent of a river to cross. I believe in my heart that they know they need to get this to one of two votes so they can pull out the “do you really want to be the vote that kills this?” card.
But I do not believe that it is, at this moment, close enough for them to pull that card. I believe that to even get it that close, they need to create an aura of inevitability; to isolate the opposition; to get the first 7 or 8 to cave so they can then get the last 2 or 3. And I believe that that is what all of this “fauxmomentum” of the last few days is all about.
I firmly believe that a lot of the yes’s from November’s vote purposely moved to ‘undecided’ for the express purpose of declaring ‘for’ the bill in the last days in order to create an illusion of ‘undecideds breaking for the bill’ which the sycophants in the MSM will then trumpet. Because I believe that, it has been frustrating to watch people who rightly and daily rail on the MSM for their sycophantic lying and total lack of objectivity get sucked into the vortex of that which they know to be filled with filth and lies because their hearts are so filled with fear and dread.
Many have asked how it could be possible for us to lose the vote on the Slaughter Solution today and still win the battle. I never said or thought this would be easy, but folks, that was a procedural vote. No matter what one’s vote on a particular piece of legislation, legislators are expected to support the party line on procedural votes. To not do so is to invite the wrath of the party leadership upon your head, and doesn’t do much for your standing within the caucus either.
Folks, the wonder of the vote today isn’t that we “lost” it; it’s that 28 Democrats broke with their leadership on a procedural vote. That’s virtually unheard of. I went back and cross-checked lists and at least nine of the Democrats that voted for the SS (that would be the Slaughter Solution
voted ‘no’ in November and announced in the last 48 hours that they were firmly against the bill.
On the other hand, Lipinski (who recently announced a switch from yes to no who I personally thought was an awfully squishy no) voted against the SS as did Harry Mitchell from Arizona (who also voted ‘yes’ in November) Could that be a covering vote to ‘mitigate’ a vote for the Rule itself? Maybe. But I don’t think so.
All I know is that the whip counts I follow show there are 36 firm no’s; only two no’s from the November vote (Kucinich & Gordon) have announced as a ‘yes’. But there are 10 yes’s from November that have flipped to ‘no’. There are nine no’s from the November vote listed as undecided. Within the ‘undecideds’ are “yes’s” that are part of the Stupak dozen who Stupak says are standing firm. Stupak continues to claim that there are Congressmen on his list that aren’t on anyone else’s, and people who are thought to be part of his coalition who are not. And he continues to maintain that the 12 he has are all holding firm. Folks – the Dems have to run the table on virtually all them because they can only afford to lose two of these people to garner the votes to pass this. And you wonder why The One has postponed until June his trip to Indonesia, and the Democrat leadership is now starting to court Joseph Cao (R) from Louisiana?
Can they do it? Of course they can. Will they? I wish I knew. But if they do, let it not be because our side got dispirited and pulled back at the most critical moment in the battle when every ounce of courage and strength need to be thrown into the breach. From the bottom of my heart and from the depths of the knot in my stomach I believe that is what this whole last couple of days has been about – creating the appearance of momentum so that wavering Dems will cave and opponents will give up.
Am I underestimating the lengths and depths that these enemies of freedom will go to enact the Holy Grail of socialism for which they have schemed and plotted for 70 years? Absolutely not. Do I understand that the stakes have never been higher; that the carrot of pork and the stick of broken body parts will be tough to overcome. You bet Nancy Pelosi’s botox-injected bottom I do.
I’m just saying “Screw ‘em!” If we lose this, then let’s lose kicking and screaming and punching and gouging right up until they close the vote on Sunday. Let us not get so caught up in their lies, deceit and utter lack of scruples that we become discouraged and give up the fight before the final blow has been stuck.
In the paraphrased words of Winston Churchill:
Churchill
{Let us} not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight…on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength… We shall defend our [country] whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall never surrender!
If, at this moment of peril for our great country, we do, we will never forgive ourselves.

Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour’d rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o’erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O’erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill’d with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call’d fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry ‘God for Harry, England, and Saint George!’

Whether we win or lose this battle, we still have a war to win. And that is November 2012. This battle of Health Care and the Battle of November 2010 are prequels to the ultimate battle, and we most focus our attention on each one in turn.
Thank you for the inspiration.

In a humorous vein -- let me paraphrase Tolkien
grey (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 1:44AM EST (link)The night deepened. There came the soft sound of Donkeys led with stealth along the lane. Outside the gate they stopped, and three black figures entered, like shades of night creeping across the ground. One went to the White House, two to the Capitol Building on either side; and there they stood, as still as the shadows of stones, while Amendments went slowly on. The House and the Senate seemed to be waiting breathlessly.
There was a faint stir in the leaves, and a RINO cried far away. The cold hour before Reconciliation was passing. The figure by the door moved. In the dark without moon or stars a drawn Slaughter-blade gleamed, as if a chill light had been unsheathed. There was a blow, soft but heavy, and the Bill of Rights shuddered.
‘Open, in the name of Barack!’ said a voice thin and menacing.
At a second blow the Congress yielded and fell back, with Amendments burst and Trust broken. The black figures passed swiftly in.
At that moment, among the homes nearby, a radio rang out. It rent the night like fire on a hill-top.
AWAKE! FEAR! FIRE! FOES! AWAKE!
Glenn Beck had not been idle. As soon as he saw the dark shapes creep from the garden, he knew that he must run for it, or perish. And run he did, out of the back door, through the garden, and over the fields. When he reached the nearest house, more than a mile away, he collapsed on the doorstep. ‘No, no, no!’ he was crying. ‘No, not me! I haven’t got it!’ It was some time before anyone could make out what he was babbling about. At last they got the idea that enemies were in America, some strange invasion from the Old Soviet. And then they lost no more time.
FEAR! FIRE! FOES!
The Republicans were blowing the Horn-call of Washington, that had not been sounded for a hundred years, not since the White Robes came after the Long War, when the very President had been assassinated.
AWAKE! AWAKE!
Far-away answering television shows and websites were heard. The alarm was spreading. The black figures fled from the house. One of them let fall a Gadsen Flag on the step, as he ran. In the lane the noise of hoofs broke out, and gathering to a gallop, went hammering away into the darkness. All about D.C. there was the sound of horns blowing, and voices crying and feet running. But the Nancgûl rode like a gale to the Watergate. Let the “Tea-baggers” blow! Soros would deal with them later. Meanwhile they had another errand: they knew now that the Treasury was empty and the Money had gone. They rode down the guards at the Pentagon and vanished from the Capital.

grey (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 8:46AM EST (link)‘… But you, John Sidney, Lord of the Mark of Republican, are declared by your noble devices, and still more by the fair countenance of the House of McCain. O worthy son of John the Thrice-renowned Admiral! Why have you not come before, and as a friend? Much have I desired to see you, mightiest Senator of western lands, and especially in these latter years, to save you from the unwise and evil counsels that beset you! Is it yet too late? Despite the injuries that have been done to me, in which the men of Bush, alas! have has some part, still I would save you, and deliver you from the ruin that draws nigh inevitably, if you ride upon this road which you have taken. Indeed I alone can aid you now.’
John Sidney opened his mouth as if to speak, but he said nothing. He looked up at the face of Barack with its dark solemn eyes bent down upon him, and then to Sarah at his side; and he seemed to hesitate. Sarah made no sign; but stood silent as stone, as one waiting patiently for some call that has not yet come. The Republicans stirred at first, murmuring with approval of the words of Barack; and then they too were silent, as men spell-bound. It seemed to them that Sarah had never spoken so fair and fittingly to their lord. Rough and proud now seemed all her dealings with John. And over their hearts crept a shadow, the fear of a great danger: the end of the Republic stood in a darkness to which Sarah was driving them, while Barack stood beside a door of escape, holding it half open so that a ray of light came through. There was a heavy silence…
‘What have you to say, Maverick Senator? Will you have peace with me, and all the aid that my knowledge, founded in long years with William Ayers, can bring? Shall we make our counsels together against evil days, and repair our injuries with such good will that our estates shall both come to fairer flower than ever before?…The friendship of Barack and the power of Chicago cannot be lightly thrown aside, whatever grievances, real or fancied, may lie behind. You have won a battle but not a war – and that with help on which you cannot count again. You may find the Shadow of the Hildebeast at your own door next: it is wayward, and senseless, and has no love for Men.
‘But my lord of Arizona, am I to be called a murderer, because valiant men have fallen in battle? If you go to war, needlessly, for I did not desire it, then men will be slain. But if I am a murderer on that account, than all of House of Bush is stained with murder; for they have fought many wars, and assailed many who defied them. Yet with some they have afterwards made peace, none the worse for being politic. I say, Maverick Senator: shall we have peace and friendship, you and I? It is ours to command.’
‘We will have peace,’ said John Sidney at last thickly and with an effort. Several of the Republicans cried out gladly. John Sidney held up his hand. ‘Yes, we will have peace,’ he said, now in a clear voice, ‘we will have peace, when you and all your works have perished – and the works of your dark master to whom you would deliver us. You are a liar, Barack, and a corrupter of men’s hearts. You hold out your hand to me, and I perceive only a finger of the claw of Moscow. Cruel and cold! Even if your war on me was just – as it was not, for were you ten times as wise you would have no right to rule me and mine for your own profit as you desired – even so, what will you say of your torches in Kenya and the children that lie dead there? And they killed some 1,500 people in the riots, and burned churches in protest. When you are accused of committing incest with your children for the sport of your own Kos Kiddies, I will have peace with you and Chicago. So much for the House of McCain. A lesser son of great sires I am, but I do not need to lick your fingers. Turn elsewhither. But I fear your voice has lost its charm.’

cari Friday, March 19th at 10:03AM EST (link)Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer. Will You permit a corrupt government to rule under Your protection- a government permitting wrong to defeat right? Do You approve of those who condemn the innocent to death? No! The Lord is my God and fortress- the mighty Rock where I can hide.
God has made the sins of evil ment to boomerang upon them! He will destroy them by their own plans. Jehovah our God will cut them off. (King David, Psalms 94:19-23)
Justice? You high and mighty politicians don’t even know the meaning of the word! Fairness? Which of you has any left? Not one! All your dealings are crooked: you give “justice” in exchange for bribes.
These men are born sinners, lying from their earliest words! They are poisonous as deadly snakes, cobras that close their ears to the most expert of charmers.
O God, break off their fangs. Tear out the teeth of these young lions, Lord. Let them disappear like water into thirsty ground. Make their weapons useless in their hands. Let them be as snails that dissolve into slime; as those who die at birth, who never see the sun.
God will sweep them away both old and young. He will destroy them more quickly than a cooking pot can feel the blazing fire of thorns beneath it.
The godly shall rejoice in the triumph of right; they shall walk the blood-stained fields of slaughtered, wicked men. Then at last everyone will know that good is rewarded, and that there is a God who judges here on earth. (Psalms 58)
O Lord, make these enemies begin to quarrel among themselves- destroy them with their own violence and strife. Though they patrol their walls night and day against invaders, their real problem is internal- wickedness and dishonesty are entrenched in the heart of the city. (Psalms 55: 9,10)
They did not conquer by their own strength and skill, but by Your mighty power and because You smiled upon them and favored them.
You are my King and my God. Decree victories for Your people. For it is only by Your power and through Your name that we tread down our enemies.
I don not trust my weapons. They could never save me. Only You can give us victory over those who hate us. (Psalms 44:3-7)
None who have faith in God will ever be disgraced for trusting Him. But all who harm the innocent shall be defeated. (Ps. 25:3)
Oh, love the Lord, all of you who are His people; for the Lord protects those who are loyal to Him, but harshly punishes all who haughtily reject Him.
So cheer up! Take courage if you are depending on the Lord.
(Psalms 31:23,24)

Methinks they’re trying to give her cover, by “starving the story of oxygen” by ignoring it, until after the vote. They can criticize her then, when it’s safe to do so.

Nor do we stop there. After we decimate the opposition, we start closing down entitlements. We kill all grants to useless government entities like ACORN, NPR, PLANNED PARENTHOOD. We close down useless Departments and agencies–I’m thinking EPA, Education, etc. We limit funding to the UN. We do what Christie’s doing in NJ–on a national scale.

What really matters is that when you leave that field today you know in your heart you left all that is within you on the field of battle. If you do that, you cannot…you will not…ever have regrets.

Back to Washington D.C
rsexteriors (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 12:32AM EST (link)for the 3rd time this Saturday (March 20th).
Steve King and Michelle Bachmann are asking for people to come to Washington D.C one more time for a rally and hopefully visits with House members. They want a million people.
They can’t just keep ignoring us and get away with it. I know it is hard to drop everything and go to D.C. Most of us have JOBS. I have two jobs, but the country comes first. I swore an oath to the Constitution when I entered the Military and although I am no longer in the military I still take that oath seriosly, unlike Obama and many of our representatives.
Think about it. Take off and drive down to Washington D.C.
The best thing I have found is not to drive into the city. get on the washington D.C website and look up the Metro. It goes well out of the city in every direction. I drive from PA down to Maryland and get on the first stop (redline) in shady grove MD. They have parking for 5000 cars. Just costs a few dollars for the 30 minute ride right to Union Station. Get off and walk right over to the Capitol building.
http://www.wmata.com/rail/maps/map.cfm
When I went down on 9/12 it took three hours to drive to metro station and 30 minutes into Union Station. I stayed a few hours got back on the metro and boom home in 3 1/2 hours just in time to make my sons football game.
Take the time and lets do this

I am personally itching for a real fight because I think the Left doesn’t think we actually have the stomach for a real fight. We’re Americans and the last time we fought each other was over 140 years ago. I doubt most comfortable, middle-class Americans are actually willing to fight for their liberties and are rather quite content to simply vote for the candidate that promises harm them the least. I think real liberty can only be guaranteed by a small cadre of those willing to die for it. I count myself among that cadre.
Nancy Pelosi believes that the American people will go willingly into the goodnight of socialism if we lose in the House. We have to prove her wrong.

Wrap a cool towel on your head or something, for now. Channel your outrage into legal, clever humiliations and mockery. Don’t push for outright internal war – much of what we need and use would be destroyed. We can do this short of ‘the fight’ you and I both feel we’re spoiling for. Each of you fighting against this unprecedented and indefensible government seizure of power from the people has my deep gratitude, and this country owes you a great debt. Today, I cannot join you save in spirit, for the ethical restrictions of my employment prevent me from expressing public political opinions and from making political contributions. Someday soon that will change, and in the future I will stand beside you when liberty is threatened.
I wish that I could stand beside you today. This legislative monstrosity (the government takeover of health care / student loans / who knows what else?), that has been pushed, pulled, dragged, and twisted through Congress against the will of the American people, is the largest domestic threat to the American dream that I have ever seen. The underhanded and unconstitutional means which have been and are being used to enact it are quite despicable. The American dream, which made us the envy of the world, was the truth that here an individual could improve his quality of life through his own hard work and abilities. The emerging nightmare should this “reform” be enacted will be an enforced equality of mediocrity, which will remove all incentive for individual achievement and punish success.
Embarking upon the voyage of this “reform” is a journey towards the ruination of this country. That is why it must be stopped, now. I pray that all of you find some way to stop it.
What motivates me? I will not allow my children to live under socialism.

Bottom line: What are we going to DO about these progressive/commie/libs?
ColdWarrior (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 4:42AM EST (link)Well, I know what I’m going to do.
First, I’m not going to give up. Indeed, I’m just getting warmed up.
Second, I’m going to recruit every conservative I know to become a Republican Party precinct committeeman. (I can’t spare a couple of hours a month to go to a local GOP meeting because [fill in the blank].) Okay, if you’re active duty military or work for “the man” (gubmint) I understand, but otherwise, there’s no real excuse. But I still want to hear them.
Third, I’m going to turn every conservative I recruit into a precinct committeeman recruitment MACHINE.
Fourth, I’m going to continue ridiculing every liberal fool I know. I’m going to DEMORALIZE THEM, not the other way around.
Fifth, I will continue to ridicule the “hopey-changey” man-child empty suit fool the liberal/commie/pinkos voted for. Go to WorldNetDaily and get some of their great magnetic anti-Obama bumper stickers. They’re inexpensive and you can take them off when you park so the libs/commies/pinkos won’t be tempted to “key” your car paint. I will wear an “in your face” political T-shirt every chance I get. (As I have since Opansey was elected.)
Sixth, I am going to continue to DEMAND my elected Republican SERVANTS GROW SPINES — including John McLame and Jon “Shamnesty/Gee, I wonder if the individual mandate is constitutional? (while scratching his chin and gazing at the ceiling)/Gee, I wonder if the Slaughter rule is constitutional?” Kyl so they will FIGHT the libs/commies/pinkos in PUBLIC.
Seventh, and most important. I’m going to pray to God for the redemption of this country.
Please, Redstaters, let’s hear what you are going to DO.
Pray. Recruit. Repeat.
Thank you.

Change of plan; change of tack
tngal (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 9:07AM EST (link)For days we’ve been calling…and many times not getting through to these washington people. They don’t want to hear us anymore. They’re taking phones off the hook
Here’s a new plan for you….
I noticed my governor sent a letter to one of my senators and one representative. (One is committed yes and the other a no.) He outlined why this hc bill was bad for our state. Will this help, who knows.
If the Washington bozos aren’t listening then our at-home bozos just might. If you can find your at home critters call them and bug them and get them to put pressure on our washington people. You might even be able to get through to them. Email, call whatever.
Think about it. If you overload your governor or your state representative with calls he can get through to your washington critter better than we’re able to.
They need to be in this fight. We elected them too, now they can start earning their pay.
To Eburke's comments on staying the course. If this passes I fear it will be only a matter of time...
archer52 Friday, March 19th at 9:19AM EST (link)http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/03/18/the-true-cost-starts-to-come-out-on-healthcare-and-guess-what-you-and-i-cant-afford-it/
We are still in the civil discourse mode. Thankfully. But sooner or later either their side or our side is going to move away from peaceful protests and letter writing to civil disobedience. That will mean the government, run by zealots (frankly this is the only word that now appears to apply to them), will have to react. How they do, well, that is the mystery isn’t it. I have my theory and my fears. Nothing in their behavior indicates they will be people of compassion or leniency. In fact, it appears they just bribed the representatives of the people other zealots are denying life saving water to… with just a few more drops of water. Stories like these are what fables about mad Medieval kings and biblical parables are made of. Yet, nobody flinches, nobody even wonders how far down the rabbit hole we’ve traveled.
In my post I go into detail about what must come next, if no cooler heads prevail. (As you know I wrote a novel about this very period of time. www.revoltthebook.com) Over at punditandpundette.com they linked to the AEI article (AEI is a solid source, I used to write for them.) on just how much the average Joe may end up paying for healthcare. It is around fourteen grand a year. Not pesos, dollars (of course with the fed printing so much, the dollar may become as worthless as pesos- but I digress).
In my post, which is depressing, even by my account, I comment on just how bad it could get when we simply will not or cannot pay the taxes. How aggressive will the government get? How violent with the confrontations get? Who will they make examples of, and believe me that is definitely coming- it has to. Who will stand at that person’s shoulder and say “No one passes here.” Who?
Here is the first part-
“PandP highlights, through AEI.org, the costs for the average citizen in America for healthcare under the new system Obama is wanting to force upon us. According to the article the average cost for a family around 100,000.00 a year income will be around $14,000.00. Yep, dollars, not pesos. Frankly, I can’t afford that. Nobody I know can afford that and we all know it won’t cost that much, so where is the extra money going?
It is going to keep the unions happy, the bureaucrats happy and the left in power. It is a robbery. Funny thing about healthcare being forced upon us- laws and taxes being pushed down on citizens of this country have led to two wars, one revolutionary and one civil. How can this new set of little dictators not see how dangerously close to the edge they are treading?
Let me do the numbers for them. There are three hundred million people, give or take, in America, not counting illegals, (but illegals won’t get involved- this is not their home). About a hundred and twenty are legally armed. Some are just hunters, some self-defense advocates, some are shooters for fun and sport. All are very aware of their right to keep and bear arms to protect themselves from enemies, both foreign and domestic. I know these people; they are regular folks- your mother and father, your brother, your boss, your husband or wife, your best friend. They are decent people for the most part, they are always looking for the good in others, despite the fact there may be no good in those others. What they aren’t are people willing to stand aside while the government rapes them financially and makes their own children go hungry or without while the upper strata rules and lines their pockets.”

I try to remind people that beyond this, we are all Americans, brothers and sisters to each other. No police officer should find himself the heavy hand of any political body. If they do, they are no longer serving their citizens or doing the job. Here is that portion-
“6. To the officers trying to do their duty, please remember the lesson I learned about five years into my career. Everybody is just as human and just as vulnerable as you are. I used to worry about a boss who constantly harassed me, always concerned he would get me fired and I couldn’t feed my family. I followed orders, even the questionable ones. Then one day something snapped inside me and I decided he wasn’t all that. He was a weak man in a powerful position. He was not going to control my behavior or set my principles. It made me the officer I ended up being, a man who believed in one principle above all others- First do no harm. It is and never has been our job to be the heavy hand of the political body. Here was what I believed. As officers, our job is to maintain the peace, keep people safe, and protect their property. That’s it. If we find ourselves enforcing tax collections by the use of force and arrest we have strayed far, far beyond any reasonable power given us by the citizens. Remember, that is a key. We serve only as long as the people allow us to serve. The day we lose their trust we will no longer be able to do the job. We might as well just hang up the pistol belt and throw away the badge.”
—
Just how long it is before people begin an active period of civil disobedience is anybody’s guess. I am sure if this bill passes, literally over the prostrate bodies of the Republicans and the vast majority of the people in America, we are a hundred steps closer than we were the day before. This is exactly what the founding fathers warned us about. Sooner or later someone would come along and try to squeeze the freedom right out of you. They warned us to be vigilant, and we weren’t. They warned us to be strong and we haven’t been. They cautioned that sacrifice is a necessary part of remaining a free people, and we dismissed them as a bunch of old irrelevant, gray wig wearing, fools. Well, shame on us.
I am amazed over just how little history the left seems to be aware of. Is it ignorance or is it blind arrogance? Is it they are betting that we will sheepishly follow the path that the Europeans have?
Frankly, it wears me out a little trying to climb inside their heads. Their minds are either seized with madness like Olbermann and Matthews or filled with delusions of grandeur like Pelosi or Obama. Worse I think some others are filled with a burning desire for control and power. It is a cancer that eats away at any remnant of humanity they may have once possessed.
In doing the post I ran across a few lines from wiki about the Boston tea party. It reminded me of today.-
“Protesters had successfully prevented the unloading of taxed tea in three other colonies, but in Boston, embattled Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to allow the tea to be returned to Britain. He apparently did not expect that the protesters would choose to destroy the tea rather than concede the authority of a legislature in which they were not directly represented.” ”
See, overreaching, stupid politicians existed in all eras. On occasion, sadly, they get into power and do stupid things that cause everyone grief.
How the left thinks they’ll get out of this mess unscathed is beyond me. Like I said, trying to understand them is tiring.
we need to take it back
arnehartmann Friday, March 19th at 9:43AM EST (link)an article named we need to take it at http://www.TheseSelfEvidentTruths.com challenges us to retake our republic from the thieves in Washington. e, you've done your mother proud with this!
janis (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 12:08PM EST (link)What a battle cry you’ve written here, and what a wonderful piece to start my morning reading with. Please do write more diaries when you feel the spirit move you!
As my parents’ pastor told them yesterday while visiting my dad in the hospital, “Ask for what you want from God and don’t stop asking. Don’t just ask one time, ask Him over and over with a constant prayer in your heart.” So that’s what I’m doing. A constant prayer that God will see us through this darkness and bring us back once more into the light.
Thank you for listening to His voice in your heart and for writing what He inspired you to write for all of us.
thanks, janis. You were always her favorite so
eburke (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 3:26PM EST (link)I’m grateful that she noticed
And ya know…without wanting to sound all sappy and syrupy, this did just flow last night like it was…inspired.
But the coolest part was waking up this morning, seeing this on the FP, and then starting to read all the comments. The eyes started to mist…and then the rain started.
I was absolutely overcome with the response and the unbelievably awesome, courageous, selfless patriots that make up the brothers and sisters at Redstate. It reaffirmed my faith and belief that no matter what the outcome of this particular battle, the masses have awakened from their slumber, the torch of liberty has been fired, freedom still burns within our bosoms, and as they have done since our founding, the lovers of freedom and liberty will prevail.
We fight for ourselves, we fight for our families, we fight for this sweet land of liberty.
Into the breach!

End? This never ends. For the left never sleeps...
erinmist (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 11:49AM EST (link)This doesn’t end in 72 hours. It ends only when by hook or by crook the Left gets what it wants. This will fail Sunday, only to rise again as an amendment to a must-pass budget resolution, or buried in some innocuous bill, like extending the hours of the National Park Service tours in Arizona.
Like Al-Qaida terrorists, the Left only need be successful once. Like our homeland defenders, we need to be successful EVERY time.
From now, until the day in January 2011 when a new Congress is installed, and a new Speaker is elected, the danger of this bill becoming law will be omnipresent.
Don’t kid yourself…this doesn’t end on Sunday. Not by them if they lose. And not by us if we lose.
Fred Graham had a great column yesterday. This fight will go on for decades to come, as even the British to this day speak about nothing so much as the state, the funding, and the condition of their National Health Service.
Like Islamic extremism, socialism never sleeps…it merely waits till we get exhausted, or let our guard down., then begins anew its inexorable and cancerous march onward. And not till we pass a Constitutional Amendment, stripping the Commerce Clause and General Welfare clause of all their unintended meaning will we reign in and defeat this.
I fear nothing less than a Constitutional Convention, called by the 38 states required, will get us there. I know Virginia’s ready — is your state?

My son's history teacher
dajeeps (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 4:04AM EST (link)I don’t know that much about him, but I hear he’s a Glenn Beck fan which gives me a little bit of confidence in what he’s being taught.
To get to the point though, this week he went over the Articles of Confederation with the kids. And of course my son is in on the study of history and politics with me, and he was telling me that the teacher’s lecture had an undertone that maybe the Confederation wasn’t all that bad.
I thought about it for a little while, and while it seems even more radical than what I consider myself to be, maybe it isn’t such a bad idea to cut out the extra layer on the top. They say the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but perhaps a some chaos as the result of freedom is better than a lot of chaos as result of tyranny from the central government.

Just so poeple don't misunderstand
dajeeps (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 5:06AM EST (link)I’m a Constitutionalist. I wasn’t raised that way, but after educating myself about the original intent I have come to respect the wisdom and the Revolutionary idea of freedom that was canonized in the Constitution. It is a spectacular feat of human kind.
From the very beginning though, it had problems. Just ask the Jeffersonians who cleaned up after the Federalists only to have Madison come along, start a war, become unpopular after essentially losing it, and talking up Federal projects as a way to gain back political favor. It was nice of him that after he got the bill through congress he couldn’t bring himself to violate the Constitution and vetoed it. There were many others after him who were no shrinking violets, however.
Fast forward to today, reading the Constitution and imagining the kind of world it creates is like being on another planet. Thinking about why it is that it says the Federal govt can only do these few things, yet now it is the problem solver in chief in theory, but the chief chaos maker in reality. And here I have been trying to move boulders; talking to anyone who will listen about how the Constitution has the answers we just need to follow it to where I am horse and battle worn on the eve of this massive transformation of America to the largest slave state that ever existed outside of Rome. Worse yet, I’ve listened to the debates going on in the House and there’s little talk about the Constitution or what authority the government has to be doing it.
The Constitution has been forgotten by the powers that be, replaced by a web of centuries of jurisprudence that is incoherent with our founding document and indecipherable for the average citizen who is trapped by stare decisis and need for standing to be heard. Is the kind of world intended by the Constitution one where we pass tyrannical laws and wait until someone is injured, agreed by the same government that shoves it down our throats, to even discuss it?
I hate to say this, but it appears to me what when we have waged this same battle repeatedly only for even more of our freedoms that we once had to be eroded in front of our eyes, even if we win the HCR battle we gain nothing. If it’s not HCR here and today, it will be something else tomorrow and it has been that way since the Federalists held power.
It’s not the Constitution that is deficient, is it the nature of a powerful central government that is and it needs to be taken out behind the woodshed and put out of our misery.
