Here’s a big surprise. Since nothing else is working, the lefties are pulling a Rosie O’Donnell and comparing Palin to Muslim fundamentalists because of her Christian beliefs.

But the values of his handpicked running mate, Sarah Palin, more resemble those of Muslim fundamentalists than they do those of the Founding Fathers…What is the difference between Palin and a Muslim fundamentalist? Lipstick.

You can read the rest of the article, but I want to make 2 points about how conservatives and the McCain campaign should address this ‘theocracy’ card that the left loves to play. Palin will inevitably be asked some form of the ‘theocracy’ question one one of the Sunday talk shows and I would love it if she could actually address it head on for once.

The key to destroying this argument is to realize the assumption behind it. Liberals assume their policies are ‘value-neutral’, while conservative
policies, especially on social issues, are ‘theocratic’. This is a false assumption because there is no such thing as a value-neutral law. Every law makes judgments about what is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and is therefore based on a value. We have traffic laws because we think safe driving is good. We have laws against drunk driving because that is ‘bad’. Even NOT having laws is a value judgment because society is saying that the cost of regulating issue X outweighs the benefit of encouraging/discouraging issue X.

The left would HATE it if the American people understood this, because it would undermine all their arguments about abortion, gay marriage, etc.

Since all our system of law must be based on a value system, the proper question is ‘whose values will be imposed on society?’ Every argument made in this article against Palin could just as easily be applied to Obama for wanting to ‘impose’ his atheistic, secular humanist value system on the rest of us.

Besides pointing on the illogic of the theocracy charge, we also need to call this what it is: religious discrimination.

The left is very good at framing issues by using language to their advantage. They charge ‘homophobia’ and ‘bigot’ against anyone who disagrees with them about the nature of the family, and they also like ‘progressive’, anti-choice’, etc. We on the right need to be better at this, and we need a term to use when appropriate against those who have a blatant hatred, bias, and fear of religious people (Bible believing Christians in particular). I don’t know if there is a proper term for this, but lacking any better ideas I am going to propose ‘theophobic’ or ‘Christophobic’. If you have any better ideas, please leave in the comments.
