Please help a 62 year old grandma who still is naive about

some things understand how Obama continues to have an approval rating above 40%. I don’t get it, I don’t understand…are there really 40+% of Americans still supporting him. We never bought into his “hope & change” nonsense, never thought he’d drain the swamp – how could he with Reid and Pelosi still in D.C. politics, and we never, ever thought he was such an “eloquent” speaker. I cringe   he speaks with all his ahs, uhs, ums, etc. I do not know of anyone, not anyone in my life that talks in 3 or 4 word phrases as if I am too dumb to understand if 5 or 6 words are spoken to me at once. Didn’t ever think his skin color was going to be like some holy grail that would suddenly end all bigotry in the U.S. and absolutely never, not ever perceived him to be a Christian man that has a deep faith in God.

Please, please. I just don’t understand how 40+% of our population is still approving of this president. Why aren’t they demanding documentation of his prior life to 2008? Why don’t they want 10 years of Obama’s tax returns? Why don’t these people care that golf, campaigning and photo ops take top priority on our president’s agenda?

I have never been this angry in my entire life, never. Every single day I want to understand how did our beloved country where my father and two of my brothers and tons of people I know fought for freedom and what is right, become what it is today?

The world has turned upside down. I know this election is about unemployment and jobs and getting government regulations over-turned, but there is a part of me that hopes some other issues are also brought to the forefront. It still boggles the mind that the president of the United States decided gay marriage should be accepted by all. How did a small minority (it was less that 5% of Americans are gay) end up wielding so much power in D.C.

Man, I gotta go mix a drink and get calmed down (and I don’t normally drink either) Obama has got to go! My son, his wife and their son’s future depends on it. How frustrating to live in a state where the liberal population of NYC cancels out all conservative votes.

large a percentage of the popular vote. What I remember most is that my state for one of the few times, actually went Republican. We never thought the GOP would win the presidency.

Have hope that this year Romney will win and many real Republicans across the US will get into office also.

Romney was good today, His speech was more “presidential” than Obama’s. Of course that is my opinion of which apparently more than 40% of Americans will disagree with. Hey. do they ever open their narrow minds?

The entire Obama dynamic producing those poll figures relies on class warfare, a fundamental principle for building socialism that has recruited useful idiots successfully for generations. Socialism THRIVES on finding unhappy, dysfunctional and unsuccessful people only too glad to dissipate their inner miseries on scapegoats, ideally a figurehead or group who can be blamed for depriving the failures of their OWN prosperity and accomplishment, while enjoying their fruits themselves. It’s extraordinarily effective, and most conservatives don’t follow the leftist news media enough to fully appreciate how much damage is being done to Romney’s reputation with casual voters using these socialist memes.

Conservatism draws on eternal truth, Divine Laws as reflected in nature, and ethical values (like hard work and honesty) for reaching independent fulfillment. **No matter how hard leftists might try, such self-actualization cannot be achieved by social engineering, only by inspiration and self-direction.** That’s a tough message for the apathetic masses to swallow – it’s much easier to be bitter and set blame.

Worse, success requires not only physical labor, but mental work and brain – not simply raw emotion, which can be accessed instantly for almost anyone. Conservatives can try to educate through our own leaders, memes, and talking points, but sadly, we cannot be expected to supply the world with brains, or activate the brains of those too lethargic and passive to use them.

thank you so much. I watched my father work 2 jobs for most of his working life and when I went to work at age 13 washing silverware by hand at a local restaurant he told me, “wash that silverware like it is the most important part of that restaurant”. I did.

Do any of today’s youth learn that? What has happened that parents are not instilling morality and ethical behavior into their children?

your few paragraphs express so well what I’m feeling. Thank you. Elaine

maybe we think alike, 62 year old grandma, because you and I have a lot in common – I have 5 grandbabies (well, they’ll always be grandBABIES to me) ;-)

And I don’t intend for them to grow up in a ‘communist paradise’ – er, nightmare. Not as long as I can crawl over glass to vote, have an ounce of breath to talk conservatism to a neighbor, or organize a drive for them from my local Republican headquarters to the polls.

re: your father’s story – when I was very small, about five years old on a family vacation, I had got it into my head from TV (rabbit ears!) and my neighbors that it was expected to have a souvenir from the motel where you were staying, so I put an embroidered washcloth in my little suitcase when we were about to leave. Thinking this was okay, I happily told my mom and dad about our remembrance when we were about ten miles on the road.

My parents looked at me in shock, explained that taking ANYTHING that was not your own was theft, so my dad turned the car right around and drove the ten miles back to the motel, and made me (by now educated to be red-faced and humiliated over what I had done) hand the washcloth right over to the manager myself. Then Dad began that day’s 200+ mile trip again. A lesson never to forget.

Needless to say, these days I would need a lot of convincing to take anyone’s tax money in the form of a handout. I had it drilled into me from the start that if anything doesn’t belong to you, it’s stealing.

Bless you and your dad… and thanks for your kind words!

and I’m afraid the blame belongs with all of us. We have allowed it to happen through apathy and taking this country for granted. I think God is using Obama to get our attention and make us realize that if we don’t get off our duffs and make changes in this country, we will lose it completely. The left has infiltrated government on every level — while we were living the American dream and thinking that the opportunity to do so would always be there.

It will take many more years of hard work to restore this nation and the Constitution that is supposed to rule it. We can do it. But we cannot stop until the job is done. And that includes taking over our schools where American history is no longer taught.

    • fightnright

I wouldn’t be surprised if in some way that was so.

Isn’t it telling how Obama and the hard left believe they can use the term ‘God’ (see God, guns, ‘bitter clingers’) as a destructive tool to help tear down the nation and institutions which have best protected His children, while those inspired by Him cherish the opportunity to try to sustain them?

but allow me to add in a couple-a cents.

The gradualism that has been building since Woodrow Wilson’s tenure has finally hit what can only be called Critical Mass.
Decades of this long, slow, slide have placed us in this one more time/last gasp positition.
From the Federal Government Appropriation of Education ( that is nowhere mandated) to Congress handing over lawmaking to unelected, faceless Nomenklatura {“the special ones”}, we, in large measure, allowed this to occur.

We allowed it by the very act of doing nothing. By abrogating our responsibilities to engage those we vote for, no matter our distaste, and so we become our own enemies.
By wondering out loud “…there oughta’ be a law…”, without considering what A Law is, in it’s most basic form: A public official, with a badge,a uniform, a gun and increased power over you, the individual.

We, the Taxpayers allow a Federal welfare check known as Earned Income Tax Credits to be dispensed to countless thousands of The Citizenry who have paid in nothing to begin with. Envy creates demands and the cycle deepens. Those who dispense these favors have zero incentives not to, so why would it NOT continue? …and so it is with so many other “entitlements”.

It is these (40%), you speak of. Who already are ‘in the whirlpool’, and not so incredibly, many more wish to ‘be them’ .
      From April to June of this year more people applied for federal disability than got a job .{ as seen on Fox Financial two days ago}
This speaks tons and needs no comments……

It had to happen some day ,and like the warrior exclaimed, when faced with overwhelming odds :” Today is as good as any other for this battle. Today is a good day to die……”
I don’t want to be sensed as a fatalist, but this has been coming and building for all our lives.
No more ignoring. No more can-kicking. Advancement is The Plan.
It’s on us and there are no others.

Our Creator’s Gifts to us are the End-Game. That is our incentive.
      No others wanted, or needed.

Freedom and Liberty to you both. f w k.

      • westcoastpatriette

it’s all on us now. We either take over — as the good guys — or we get taken over by the bad guys. And it could get much, much worse if we allow it.

    • emptybucket

and you’ve expressed my opinion so much better than I ever could. I remember that many times in the last 2 years of GW’s presidency I felt angry and betrayed by his actions, YET had the feeling that all was at it was suppose to be. Americans hatred of GW did lead to Obama becoming president. I believe that also.

And you are right, the task is ahead of us all. For those that want to sit back and do nothing, well…you may bring Obama his 2nd term.

The rest of us need to work hard. For myself, I place my faith in God and not any one man but am hopeful that we can get Romney elected and that he will follow through on what he has been saying. Thought he looked nice and presidential today. His little prayer/statement was very heartfelt and sincere. What does Obama say? The government will do everything it can to bring justice to the victims and their families. Always the government!

      • Ausonius

needs to change their opinion! :)

EmptyBucket is also right: anyone expecting even partial salvation from our worst impulses from a politician will always be disappointed.

Romney will disappoint us: I guarantee it. He will do things unconscionable.

Unfortunately, the alternative is demonstrably worse.

        • ohiohistorian

For this not to have been promoted to the front page is really sad. This lady says it as least as eloquently as most of the ruminations on this page.

        • ohiohistorian

is what I thought as I listened to Limbaugh talk about how the left is trying to make Stericycle and disposal of aborted babies an issue. As repugnant as that is to me, I then think about how Barack Obama, as State Senator, sat there stony-faced as this RN testified in Illinois about holding an aborted baby until it died. Then he proceeded to lock up the legislation to allow medical aid to be given to these babies until he left the Illinois Senate. I remember with rage listening to Alan Colmes representing that Illinois didn’t need this law, they already could do it (not according to their Attorney General).

That is the demonstrably worse alternative on the abortion side. On the foreign relations side, look at the fiasco with the “Arab Spring” and the Muslim Brotherhood, and the private talk with the then-President of Russia.

Then I look at the food stamps for illegal invaders (they are NOT immigrants) and Bernanke and Obama printing worthless money to cover debt.

These make me think that anyone who votes for Obama should instead get themselves a free ticket to Cuba. Go see the wonders that you are pushing for this nation on a first hand basis, instead of listening to liars like Michael Moore and Mike Farrell tell you how wonderful it is.

          • emptybucket

particularly over rage at Alan Colmes. We now employ our mute button whenever he is talking.

Thank you for your kind words, I am not a particularly educated lady but do like to at least try and express myself in the political arena.

I used to tell my friends I came here to get my daily chuckles, now I’m beginning to worry about “you people”. Only the naive believed a non-pure white President (The President is as white as he is black. Remember his mother and her family?) would bring racial harmony to this country. Any one that knows American History knew it would not take long for the big rats to come out of their holes (Ex. KKK, the Black Codes, Jim Crow, and the Supreme Court’s decision that it was unlawful for Berea College (KY) to be an integrated institution). For your own health, calm down. Get the kitchen fire extinguisher if needed, and put out the fire on your head.

    • emptybucket

calm down. I think it is abouttime some righteous anger got a hold of me and propelled me into discussion, debate, research and yes, I am going to find an active tea party to participate in! So ladsmith whatever your purpose, it has no effect, affect on me. Your gibberish might mean something to the posters at Politico, Huffpo, whatever.

I’m at Red State because both diaries and comments for the most part are of a serious, thoughtful nature meant to edify with an ocassional chuckle just to keep things fun!

Try reading in the background for a year or so and then perhaps you’ll actually be able to allow some common sense to enter that narrow mind of yours.

as in my mind I’ve kept that 40% at the forefront thus allowing me to hope that Romney at between 40 and 44% could beat Obama this fall. Problem is the polls are not really a good measure, perhaps the polls one day before the election would actually tell us a “truth” or something like that.

Like I say frequently, “the world is upside down”

Your comment leaves me feeling numb…almost 50% are going to vote for this guy in November, possibly, probably…I know I am biased but I honestly cannot think of one positive action Obama has made since his election. It’s all been backward movement.

And now I’m reading online he has brought his two daughters into the converstaion again saying, what if they had been in that theater. I agree with the bloggers…it is always about him. The Great One, The Savior of America, The One Who Knows All, yada, yada, yada.
