MEMBER DIARY

Abortion is Plan “A” in America

We have become a society that discusses “Abortion” while the majority of women choose it as Plan A for all pregnancies. I do not buy into the current controversy regarding Senator Akin. There has to be some behind the scene reason so many GOP bigwigs have jumped on the “resign now” band wagon. I have been commenting for several weeks that many Conservatives place Abortion on the back burner, so to speak, as they personal feel it should not be a political issue.  Well, the elephant is the room is definitely Abortion.

It is a political issue that the Democrats have been pushing to the forefront for many years. Probably not many will read this short diary but perhaps those that do will sit back and really cement their position on Abortion. Is it right, or is it wrong?

Every fiber of my being says it is wrong. 40 years ago when were told we would not be able to have children there was an immediate attempt to get on waiting lists for adoption. At that time there was a 5 to 7 year waiting list for an infant. We did not pursue adoption in 1971 as we made a decision to just live our lives and keep our eyes on what the Lord had in store for us. We had a lot of little kids around us so we had children to love which helped us to cope with the sad news we would never have a child.

A person can rationalize, justify, explain, whatever – in America when an unwanted pregnancy occurs we have become a nation that accepts Plan A as the first solution.  Does no woman even consider carrying the baby full term for adoption? Even a raped woman might find some solace in providing a childless family with a child to love. A way to turn something evil into something good…no, the Plan A option will be chosen.

It shouldn’t be a political issue, but it is. Sure the issue can be sidestepped by saying, “I believe abortions should not be funded by the government”, however that really doesn’t answer the call to support those who feel abortion is wrong.  No matter how it happened, social issues are being driven by the media and the Internet and the Democrats; and now the Republicans.

We do not want to be talking about gay marriages (here in NY there were foisted upon us without a vote), and we definitely do not want to be talking about abortion.

As solid Conservatives we are concerned about the financial cliff Democrats are driving us over. We are concerned that Medicare is consistently raided by Washington. We worry about the future for our grandson – yes, after 8 years of marriage God gave us a son.

Adoption instead of abortion, could that be a conversation for America right now?  Probably not! The Democrats are never going to let this one go.

I’m a unreservedly Pro-Life. To me, abortion is murder, plan and simple. The only place I can possibly see it as “needed” would be if the life of the mother was definitely at risk, and even then, she could still choose to take the baby to term if she so chooses.

But abortion will never be outlawed in America. The left-wing is too determined to hold on to this “right” and Roe v Wade will surely never be overturned. It will take a Constitutional Amendment defining when life begins to see abortion go away.

As for the Akin controversy, I don;t see it as about abortion at this point. I see it as a politician making an extremely stupid statement and giving the pro-abortion left an issue with which to distract America. Akin cannot win at ths point. He needs to step down immediately so another candidate can step in and try to salvage a win in his state.

On Akin you are right. But it is what it is and the man is going to run. So we have to decide if we want to win MO or not because it is hard to see Romney and McCaskill willing MO.

On abortion I disagree. Roe uses the trimester scheme. I think we can reasonably try to outlaw abortions in the 3d trimester without touching Roe. We are also shutting down abortion clinics through the regulatory process. Casey was narrowly decided PP v Casey was nearly won and could be attacked again if we win in November.

The next logical line of attack is on Doe v Bolton and get rid of the “health” nonsense.

It will be a long slog but we can win it even if Roe survives.

I feel abortion in any case except to save the life of the mother is wrong. I believe life starts at conception. Although rape is a horrible crime I do not believe a child should be killed because of the evil crime of the father who forcefully created it. Akin’s did not make that moral argument though. He made a stupid argument based on crap science. It was incentive to any woman who has ever been the victim of rape and more so to any woman who became pregnant because of it.

That being said he has not stepped down from the race. He is still a million times better than the person he is running against. Journals like this only keep his stupid comment in the spotlight and don’t help him at all. It only reminds people of an incentive and stupid comment he made that can alienate a lot of people who would vote for him otherwise.

I’ve noticed this for years. When a young woman gets pregnant, the FIRST option is always abortion. Sadly, I’ve even seen this in good Christian families. I once had a friend pregnant with her second child. She was neglecting the one she already had, mooching off her ex boyfriend and father and I just didn’t think she was a fit mother. I couldn’t in good conscience reccomend an abortion, so I asked her if she had considered adoption and she told me “Oh no, I could NEVER do that!”

So she had no problem having an abortion (which she had done) and no problem being a single mother to a neglected child, but somehow adoption was evil to her.

That in a nutshell is our problem.

People just don’t want to talk about abortion. Jake mentions at the front of his diary yesterday that he doesn’t like to talk about it. We all avoid letting our true thoughts out because abortion has been taken out of the moral decision realm and placed into the political realm. I was elected tax collector quite a few years ago and was amazed at how many people asked me what I was going to do about abortion. I looked at them and said, if you want my personal views I am willing to share but you have to understand, a tax collector has nothing to do with setting political policy or undoing political mistakes. Time after time I would be asked about abortion. This was in the late 90s, here were are 20 years later and the kettle is still boiling.

Abortion needs to be taken out of politics and but back into our moral fibers, so to speak. We have Planned Parenthood among other liberal groups to thank for making abortion seem like a very natural, common place procedure instead of the horrible taking of a human life that it really is.

I wrote a pretty much neglected diary about how the word fetus has become used for baby. First the woman had to look at abortion as something other than what it was….thus the introduction of the term “fetus”.

Anyway, I have always been willing to share my views on abortion, the problem arises when all the grey areas enter in. The truth about the grey areas is that they are personal decisions and cannot be mandated by law or thru a judge. Nor can anyone say to a pregnant by rape woman, you have to carry this baby to term if only to give to a loving family. It is that one woman’s decision that none of us really know what we would have done if placed in that exact same situation. Americans talk too much about what others should be doing!

Akin stayed in the race, so you’re right – we have to decide how to approach winning that seat in MO. The more I think about it, the more I’m starting to get a feeling that Akin is not completely out of it. He’d have to run smart, but it’s not an impossible hill to climb.

My strategy for him would consist of two parts.

First, make a second commercial about the gaff. The first was an okay start, but I think he needs to make a stronger point. Specifically “My words sucked, but here’s the issue – why are babies conceived in the tragedy of rape any less deserving of life than other children? What about those people out their who were conceived in rape? Are they less of a person because of it? Yes, it takes a woman of incredible strength to take the life inside her to term. But does that innocent child lack a right to life?”

Part two: Get off the subject, run on the economy, and only answer direct questions about the statement, and only with the statement I suggest above.

As long state and federal governments still fund them abortions are a political issue. Planned parenthood is smart enough to know that without sucking up taxpayer funds they wouldn’t be able to provide mass amounts of cheap abortions on demand. They keep it political to keep there funding and stay alive.

Funny how the same people who scream about freedom of choice over there bodies demand that government pay for it. That argument stops being over the morality of the choice being paid and who is responsible for a person’s own actions them or the government. Maybe when debating the issue of funding that argument should be made more. Like Sandra Fluke’s birth control who should have to pay for other’s actions. It is not my responsibility as a taxpayer to pay for your condoms. It is not my responsibility to pay for your abortion(especially since i consider it murder). It is not my responsibility to clothe or feed your child if you carry it to term. You want the freedom of choice that goes with your body you can pay the bills that go along with it.
